There is my weekly routine before I go to the supermarket for shopping foodstuffs. A rough estimate of this waste equated to $12 which is about eight percent of the grocery bill I handle every week.

Another inclination on the same is the waste of textiles. I realized that my family would throw away several clothes every week and sometimes it included shoes, bedding, and curtains. I realized that I threw away at least one cloth every week and that makes my expenditure on the same rise even though am comfortable with the same.

There has also been waste associated with paper. This originates mainly from the used paper towels, packaging material, and cut-outs of magazines, and newspapers. I realized with the kind of artwork my younger sister is in, we throw away such waste amounting to about 4 kg per week. This is regardless of other biodegradable substances she uses when drawing or painting.

Polythene materials and plastic such as packaging material also form part of the materials that are thrown away. Since I do most of the grocery shopping during the weekend and most of the stuff I buy is packed using this material, it came to my attention that this was the main reason why I do collect a lot of polythene material for disposal every week. Glass can also be accounted as a waste though it is not consistent. This may include the breakage of cups or tumblers.

Interpretation

My parents always complain about how we are poor eaters and they would always try and tell us stories referencing their days. They would at least not take one meal out of the typical three in a day because of the economic status of their parents at the time. This kind of garbage insinuates the idea that the family has more than enough to eat and spare. This is despite the fact the family does not maximize these products. This may portray the household as either a middle-class or a high-class family because the children therein can dispose of at least one cloth every week. The fact that they can do shopping once a week and this same shopping is meant to replace that of the previous week show that the family has its necessities well taken care of hence having both utilitarian and hedonic consumptions.

Waste that is related to paper can tell that the family is in a position to buy magazines and newspapers which are later used by my siblings in the artwork. This means that luxuries are part of the budget. Indications of having waste originating from packing material will insinuate that the family is in a position to buy products to a certain extent where the next shopping would require the disposal of leftovers for the new commodities to not only find space but as a way of lifestyle for this family. Reflecting on the amount of waste that is disposed of especially being affected by the artwork of the sibling shows that the family buys a lot of magazines sometimes not only to read but just to cater to her needs. This means that the family can sustain the needs of the child without restraints. This may speak a factor concerning the social status of the family. It might imply that the family lives in one of the city suburbs even as the kids go to public schools that have a good reputation in artwork or knowledgeable education.

Polythene bags are mainly used for general packaging in shopping, especially in the textile industry. This does not rule out the same being used in supermarkets. This might imply that the family is insured on buying clothes regularly hence avoiding the rush that comes with seasons such as summer hence avoiding high costs for the same clothes that could have cost almost double the current price in such peak seasons. This might also imply that the family prefers buying a cloth a week for everyone rather than having a summed-up budget that might prove strenuous for the family. Broken glasses may insinuate that members of the household are mainly adults who can easily take care of the glass utensils and that breakage of the same may be most likely due to accidents.

Conclusion
Realization of the capabilities of the family in terms of economics and understanding their social aspects in terms of culture comes a long way in building a picture of the waste that comes from the household as well as attaching the value that comes with it.
