As such, it is important to distinguish between the three basic MIS reports so that each can be tailored to the informational need of its users. A clear distinction between the reports also enables the management to take timely actions on issues that require urgent attention.How the Use of the Three Kinds of MIS Report DifferSummary reports are used when managers require a quick overview of information on a particular area.

On the other hand, detailed reports are used for specific activities so as to gauge their performances while exception reports are sued to report unusual occurrences in an organization, which need urgent solutions.Q2. The Characteristics and Capabilities of a Decision Support SystemDecision Support System (DSS) has three fundamental components. These include data, models as well as the user interface. Data is basically the information that is required for decision making. Data is usually kept in a database.

Models refer to the models that are utilized in data analysis and the forecasting of outcomes of any particular decision. It also includes software that helps in managing models in DSS. User interface refers to the manner in which the users can use the DSS to facilitate their decision-making processes, even if they are not technology experts. In most scenarios, a DSS is very easy to use and construct.A Decision support system offers support for decision-makers in every organizational management level.

It achieves this objective through the consolidation of the opinions and judgments of an individual employee of the organization. Also, DSS supports and accommodates numerous interdependent decisions. It is a system that supports decision-making at every phase and ensures effective implementation of desired choices for organizational benefit. It utilizes quantitative models to analyze data and present output, which can aid effective decision-making in an organization. A DSS creates room for learning and improvement of existing applications.

The system has the capability of being disseminated over the Web and facilitates easy sensitivity analyses.
