Urban Planning In China Introduction Major towns are best characterized by water supply, growth and subordination, politics, modes of transport, farmland, and suburban neighborhoods. They excel as major commercial sites because of the uniformity of activities, transportation and building structures. Most urban planning is characterized by budgets, project schedules, legislative enactments and public education campaign. This paper aptly examines urban planning present in Chinatown. Water Water is a significant fact in the Chinatown movie. This is because water is used to represent the numerous sociopolitical factors within the city being discussed. Water has a sexual meaning in the movie and this is portrayed by the different characters present lie Jake and Cross from the movie. Water is a very essential commodity for both internal and external use. Poor planning in the water system may not achieve the desired effect on urban planning because good urban centers have stable water supply system. Transparency in the urban water commission enhances urban development as individuals are attracted to places with availability of such factors like water and security. Urban centers are characterized by large populations who cannot stay permanently in areas without water for a long period, therefore, most urban planers take into consideration the availability of water when erecting structures or drawing up the map of a new urban center. Urban Growth and Suburbanization Suburbanization is eminent in Chinatown movie by the culture presented by the film producer in the movie. A perfect example of the differences in the suburbs is the presence of the Mall which greatly differs in the different areas mentioned in the movie. Urban growth and suburbanization are a process where developments happen gradually and within a set period of time. It is traced through the obscure era when there was scarcity of resources to an era when the mission of drought management, water quality and good control of the environment is achieved. Urban growth must be accompanied by a tremendous increase in the population of individuals within a given urban center. The increase in the urban centers will promote the development of suburbanization since there will emerge class difference amongst the individuals living in the area. Politics in Planning Political corruption is an issue of concern in Chinatown movie. An example is that Polanski flees from the unfair verdict of the judge who was corrupt and wanted to wreck political career. The movie is filled with issue of political and moral corruption and this lies the political planning of the movie. Politics tremendously affect the process of urban planning in many towns. This is because the political structure of a government influences the decisions made in urban centers both negatively and positively. When politicians fail in the quest of implementing public policies which are not beneficial to development projects, then urbanization is not promoted because the resources are channeled to a different cause (Sandercock, &Leonie 261). An example is how Koch amassed political power through their critics. This led to the big four questions like should urban politics be studied? Should power be conceptualized among actors? What factors govern the institutions? What is the significance of the private sector? Transportation, Particularly Emergence of Private Auto Use Chinatown movie enjoys the benefits of a good planning of a transportation system. This is eminent in the construction of a mega world lifestyle mall that will immensely boost transport activities within the region. Transportation is an important element in the urban planning process of any city. A good urban planning prides of having the best transportation services and means. This involves use of particular emergence of private automatic machines. A city that prides of its good planning ways will enjoy the benefit that is brought by technology like using automatic vehicles within the urban centers (Smart Growth &Transportation, 136). Smart Growth and Sustainable Growth Smart and sustainable growth refer to the diverse strategies of improving a towns’ or country’s economic condition. Smart and sustainable growth is really important in urban planning as it determines the success of an urban center. Poor formulated, smart and sustainable growth will not lead to growth and development in various urban centers if the towns do not have set goals and objectives to be achieved (Smart Growth &Transportation, 136). How to Preserve Farmland Farming plays a significant role in our economic planning in spite of the challenges of volatile markets and development pressures. The use of geographic information systems will improve urban planning by preserving farmland. They will point on the priority zones where farming can perform excellently. Other sectors of urban planning are promoted when preservation of farmland becomes central parts of the towns’ heritage. Service Facilities for Suburban Towns The service facilities for suburban towns involve planning of numerous activities. These services are directed towards the care of an entire metropolitan area through finding solutions to issues regarding suburban sprawl. Service facilities found in the suburban towns are always different from those found in other towns that not considered suburban areas. These services include television room, laundry facility, business services and shuttle services (Steiner, et al. 415). Suburban towns have been depicted all over the movie as the setting is the towns. China is a world super power country and that makes it have better service facilities for its towns. Emergence of Suburban Neighborhoods Suburban neighborhood is the encroachment of a community made up single-home families within a given town or city. Suburban neighborhoods are a major planning issue affecting planning of a town because of its influence in changes in the populations, technology, transport and communication. These neighborhood exists to satisfy the needs of individuals who consider themselves as being on a different class; thus they avoid density and untidiness of the city by living in these neighborhoods that are only associated with the upper class (Steiner, et al., 415). Conclusion In conclusion, urban planning issues are very important in the development of good urban center as see in the Chinatown movie. A bad political structure will not encourage any economic development within a region thus urbanization will not be promoted. Water is an essential commodity in urban planning and cases where the water and sewerage company are not planned effectively, then the town cannot achieve the status of being a successful urban center. Smart and sustainable growths are also a key factor in the achievement of urbanization. Good urban centers are planned in a smart way to promote the occurrence of various economic generating activities. In addition, transportation is also extremely significant in the development urban centers. A town with unstable transportation channels can not be considered as an urban center because of lack of appropriate transport to help in moving people and goods from one point to another.
