11 October Argument There has been immense emphasis on the freedom of choice and expression in the society over the decades. A concerted effort made by the educationalists, scholars, and other social actors has borne fruition in the form of empowerment of the minorities in the society and eradication of such social evils as racism. Legalization of gay marriage is one of the most arguable and debatable topics of the contemporary age. Gay communities that have remained relatively silent over the deade3s have started to raise their voice and concerns in the present age.

Gay marriage should be illegalized because it is not a natural way of life. The contract of a marriage between two people is a psychological, emotional, and physical bond not only between them but also between the people related to them on both sides except for the physical bond. Gay marriages are unnatural in that they cannot produce children in the biological way like the people in heterosexual marriages do. Either the gays have to adopt the children or they have to live with their own children that they have had from previous heterosexual marriages.

By nature, same-sex couples have been denied the right to have their children biologically. Accordingly, when the children are made to live with the gay couple, it is an intervention in their natural right to be raised in a heterosexual marriage between the parents. Growing up with gay parents is emotionally and psychologically demanding as the children have to constantly face societal scrutiny and questions loaded with sarcasm and hatred toward the parents and indirectly toward the children being raised in the gay families.

Proponents of gay marriage tend to say that illegalizing gay marriage is a kind of discrimination against the gay community. While it might be correct to call it discrimination, the discrimination is justified when the effects of legalizing gay marriage extend beyond the gay couple to others including the heterosexual couples as well. In most of the countries around the world, women far outnumber the men. There is already scarcity of men. If men get married to men, it is a great loss that is both a cause and effect of the spread of gay marriages.

With the scarcity of men, women might feel the urge to get married to women. With so many gay marriages happening in the society, there would occur a revolutionary change in the societal systems and the traditional gender related roles and responsibilities would be altered. There are many negative implications of this role reversal. The negative effects that consequently surface include but would not be limited to lack of employment, negative birth rate, and skill deficit. Concluding, gay marriage should be illegalized because it is a completely unnatural way of life that has many negative implications on the society in addition to the life of the gay couple and the people related to it.

Gay marriage cultivates faulty values, and challenges the religiously and culturally approved roles and responsibilities of men and women in their respective genders.
