Productivity in Workplaces Productivity in the workplaces has become every manager’s concern over the years, since, as Ropella highlights, employee happiness or satisfaction is the foundation of creating value to the customers. This is because, productivity in the workplace is an input of both the professional and support staff. Moreover, Kjerulf highlights that happiness and satisfaction of employees is the main efficient method that can be used to increase employee’s productivity at work. He further states that enhancing employee satisfaction in the workplace leads to happy workers. When workers are happy, they enjoy their work and this is more preferable than using other systems to improve productivity. This paper will provide evidence that happy or satisfied workers are more productive in the workplaces.
Ropella highlights that there are factors that influence and contribute to employee satisfaction. The first factor is the work environment and it is concerned with the internal working environment of the employees. This environment entails feelings and attitudes on their colleague employees and the job itself. It is important for the employees to feel included in the larger organizational team to enhance productivity. The second factor is the ability to achieve the desired organizational objectives and it is concerned with the determination of the employee’s capacity and potential to achieve the set goals in their work. The other factor is the rewards and compensation for work done by the employees. Recognition for a good job done creates a feeling of happiness and motivation towards productivity. Business knowledge is another factor and it is concerned with the necessity of informing the employees on how the business works and on the finances of the organization. When employees are aware of the operations of the business, it enhances their productivity. The last factor is client relations and it is concerned with good relationships between customers and the employees. When the relations are favorable, employees are motivated to perform better.
Furthermore, Kjerulf highlights various reasons why satisfied or happy workers at the workplace are more productive. The first reason is that happy workers work better with others in the workplace to enhance productivity. In this case, when employees are happy, they are more fun to work with other people hence improving working relations, which translate to higher productivity. The second reason is that workers satisfaction enhances creativity at work. Happy workers are able to generate new ideas, which are geared towards improving productivity. The third reason is that satisfaction of workers reduces complaints in the workplace that improves productivity. When employees are not complaining about their work, their productivity tends to improve. Fourthly, happy workers have more energy in doing their work hence, increasing their efficiency at work, which translates to higher productivity. The next reason is that satisfied workers express optimism in their work. This is whereby happy workers express positive and optimistic outlook of their work and this helps to improve productivity.
The sixth reason is that satisfaction of employees creates high motivation levels in the workplace and this high motivation translates to high worker productivity. Kjerulf highlights that happy workers perform faster in their tasks. This is concerned with creating relaxed mood for the employees due to happiness and this translates to more openness to learning new things hence improving productivity. The second last reason is that when employees are satisfied, they are likely to make fewer mistakes because they worry less. When they are happy, mistakes will not bother them and they quickly move on towards high productivity. Lastly, satisfied workers make better decisions at work. When they are happy, they focus on the future of the organization and make informed decisions on their work priorities, which translate to higher productivity.
