Why I Want to Get a Degree in Communication - Admission/Application Essay Example

Essay Communication is a never ending phenomenon. We start communicating from the day we are born and this process carries on until the day we die. Going to college is always an exciting moment for a student whos about to get done with his schooling.Ever since I was a kid Ive loved interacting with people. From the tears I cried when I was born to ending up a meeting a beggar and discussing with him about his miseries, its been communication thats helped me to know the other person better and helped me tell them what Ive been feeling.

Communication is everywhere, from looking into someones eyes to avoiding eye contact with them, from talking with someone loudly to ignoring what they are saying, its been there there all along.Its my passion for communication that that has lead me to pursue a degree in it. I believe there are endless possibilities for me once I get done with my Bachelors Degree in this field. Print media, electronic media, advertisement, broadcasting, customer relationship officers are just few of the many options that would open up for me once I get my Degree.

I come from a very well off back ground and always given priority to my studies as well as extra curricular. Alongside these things I believe social work is an important aspect these days, and people dont take it that seriously as it should be taken. I believe the poor and the needy and people who havent been blessed the way we have been. Therefore its not only our moral but social as well as ethical responsibility to take care of them and provide them with all basic necessities of life. The world would have been a much better place if we start placing ourselves in their shoes and see how cruel the world is to them and how badly they need out support.

As part of my social work, I have volunteered a lot of hours at a local Community Storehouse. This Community Storehouse managed to collect funds through events and personal contacts and used them to help the needy. Often times help was provided to the needy in the form of provision of furniture, clothes, food as well as household items. I also believe social work can be linked to communication. It is believed that seventy five percent of a persons day is spent in communicating some way or the other.

Working for social welfare means listening to the needs of the poor and consoling them, thereby communicating. It further means going on to meet sponsors and putting forward a valid case in front of them so they donate money for welfare causes – this again requires communication.To sum it all up, this world is nothing but an epitome of communication. A degree in communication would not only help me to get to know better about the dialects, history and forms of communication, but would also teach me how to deal with interviews and tackle them.

It would tell me how to draft my resume in such a manner that it communicates my entire package effectively to the person who views it. I would end this by a famous quotation of communication, “Communication is unnoticeable and it goes on all the time, even when you think its not taking place”.
