The operations of the British museum are; conservation; the museum is charged with the function of preserving the country’s heritage of artifacts and all other cultural heritages. Promoting culture; the British museum through allowing access to the conserved resources promotes the British culture. Passing on the history; through the museum history is passed from one generation to another. Another operation of the museum is recreation; through the museum, many people find a way of spending their leisure time.

Source of knowledge is another of the museum’s operation. This is in such away that, through the museum many people get a learning experience which equips them with ample knowledge of the past. Another operation is corporate hospitality; the museum acts as host to corporate an act that promotes the hospitality of the country as whole even to the outside world. Another operation is retailing business; here, the museum is charged with the role of selling artifacts to the visitors in the museum as an income generating method (Leisk & Yeoman, 1999).

There are various challenges affecting the different museum operations. One such challenge is limited funds for conservation. Conservation is an expensive venture that requires a lot of resources to maintain it. The availability of such resources is a vital shortcoming for the museum whose heritage maintenance also increases operational costs. Another challenge is the development of technology; with the current modernization of the internet, people tend to research on the internet rather than going to the museum.

This is highly reducing popularity of the museums especially to the young generation (Sharkley, 2000). Another challenge is managing the high demand; at times, the crowds at the museum are so hefty that it is hard to control them, these results from failure to maintain peaks and off peaks. Another key challenge is maintenance of quality whereby the museum
