The world of business is a competitive place. Deals and decisions need to be made quickly and with the best information available. Knowledge, decisiveness and the ability to recognize a good risk are essential for business owners all over the world. I have a strong desire to be successful in all of my business endeavors. As a result, I realize that I need to capitalize on my decisive nature and ability to recognize good risks by adding to my base knowledge of sound business practices. This is why I am interested in earning an MBA at a university in the United States.

My background in Saudi Arabia is full of business experiences. Working with my father in real estate has been a rewarding and educational experience. My father has always taught me to recognize two things. He has taught me that to succeed you must recognize what you truly desire. In other words, you must be decisive when establishing your goals. The second thing he taught me while working in the real estate business is to recognize the true value of something and then work to realize that true value, even if the work involves risk.

When I was younger, my father would ask me what I was going to be when I was a man. I would say, “I don’t know.” He would then reply, “Then that is what you will be.” When I looked at him with a puzzled expression he explained, “If you don’t know what you want to be when you are an adult then you will be an adult that knows nothing.” I thought about this and realized he was correct. I set a goal to join him as a partner in his real estate business and I never wavered from the goal.

This is how my father taught me to be decisive. I also remember a time when my father invested heavily in a group of properties. I overheard some of this partners and friends joking with him. They were sure he would not be able to develop the properties. I can remember my father saying to them that they wouldn’t laugh if they understood what those properties were really worth. Sure enough, a very wealthy individual expressed interest in buying the properties from my father six months later due to their prime location next to a newly announced manufacturing area.

My father made a huge profit, even though it was a risky maneuver. I admire my father but recognize that I am not he. He has a great sense for business. He makes decisions based on feeling and sometimes emotion or sentimentality. This works for him because he is so good at what he does. I am more analytical. I realize that I must build upon my decisive nature and my willingness to take risk by gaining more knowledge. I believe that I can be a successful partner with my father when I return to Saudi Arabia.

My hope is that the knowledge gained by earning an MBA at a university in the United States will add to my father’s knack for making good business decisions. I do believe that knowledge brings power to decision making. I have a strong desire to succeed by being decisive and taking good risks. I also want to make these decisions with the best information I can possibly obtain. That is why I want to study for an MBA in the United States.
