Lanea Hall American InterContinental ITCO231 Individual 4 May In this paper the complete design and implementation of database for Fernando’s Skate Shop is discussed. The RDBMS used is Microsoft Access 2007. The database design comprises of 6 tables and with input forms. The database is capable of storing complete information of the daily business at the shop. This database can be useful for futuristic evaluation of business and for launching promotions by figuring out the sales volume and regular customers.

Introduction:This report describes the features and specifications of the database design formulated for a scenario named “Fernando’s Skate Shop”. This design is implemented using MS-Access 2007. The database design comprises of six tables. The description of tables is given in Table 1.1.List of tables in the database. Table 1.1CustomersThis table contains the detailed information about the customers and acts as a master table for DailyOrders.ProductsThis table contains the information about the products that the shop offers for sale.

It has a foreign key connected to the ProductTypes. This also acts as a master table for DailyOrdersProductTypesThis table contains the categories of Products. Like there are multiple SKATEBORDS listed under different names and with different specs given in the Products table. DailyOrdersThis table records daily transaction of the shop with date and other details. It has foreign keys from Customers and Products tables. SupplierThis table contains detailed information about the Suppliers and acts as a master table for the Purchases.

PurchaseRecordsThis table records date wise transaction of purchases of raw material that is needed to manufacture the skateboards and accessories.The Database Design and Relationships:The database design and the respective relationships are depicted through Figure 1.1. This image shows the implemented entity relationship diagram. The referential integrity is enforced with cascade update and cascade delete. All the relationships are of one – many type. Figure 1.1. In the first normal form the possible fields are created through splitting the bigger fields. Like Complete address is decomposed into Address, City, State and Zip fields. In the second normal form the tables are decomposed to curb redundancy. Like the table “ProductTypes” was extracted out from the table “Products” to maintain the storage space and avoid redundancy in data. The 3rd NF is achieved through the introduction of appropriate relationships through the inclusion of foreign keys.
