For example, culturally diverse families are covered under structural category. The model is used in a variety of circumstances in regards of family assessment. Relevant Data: The tool is cost-effective because it is primarily question answer based. However, the tool is lengthy in regard of implementation. For example, under the category of structural assessment, there are seven types of classification suggested questions based on ethnicity, race, social class, religion and spirituality, and environment.

The validity of the information gained through this tool will depend greatly on the assessor. The assessor has to cross reference the answers of the assessed person with the other family members. Enhancement of the Assessment Phase: “Healthcare providers need to establish which categories are relevant and appropriate to each family at any given time” (Srivastava, 2007: 164). Therefore, if the nurse can categorize the person and the family to be assessed properly, this tool can yield excellent results.

The tool provides the assessor with an enquiry guide for kinship and social factors, which helps the nurse to develop the nursing process during the assessment phase through effective socio-psychological methods. Application: In the case of George Murphy, who is an elderly individual, it can be understood that his confidence on his children has fallen. By assessing the social and kinship factors in particular, the assessor can scrutinize his relationship with his children so that he and his family may work toward resolving differences and restoration of confidence.
