Training Design: Communication Skills Training As Robert Gagne said, “Organization is the hallmark of effective instructional materials”, the training design based on Gagne-Briggs model for communication skills is as follows;Gain attention: Use flip chart to initiate interest in communication skills by taking a short general quiz. “You present your ideas in such a way so that others are receptive to your point of view? You give people full attention while they are talking to you? You encourage other people to talk and ask them appropriate question? Or not?” Differentiate trainees on basis of positive and negative answers and briefly discuss with them why they assumed so and what would make it better.

Inform learner of the objective:Inform trainees of the key learning objectives for the training module and describe the expected performance and outcomes. Discuss the significance of each learning objective with reference to the previous discussion.Stimulate recall of prior knowledge:Ask the definition and types of communication. What are the skills and techniques required for effective business as well as social communication? What’s the difference?Present stimulus material: Present examples with outcomes of effective communication in leading muti-national organizations.

Share a comprehensive list of what of what makes for effective communication using PowerPoint slides.Provide learning guidance: Discuss with them the examples that present poor performance outcomes and ask for their inputs. Give a handout sheet to trainees with a number of relevant statements and ask them to rate their effectiveness. Evaluate the results and involve them to come up with a consensus as to which are good to be adopted and which are not. Elicit performance: Ask them to form groups of three or four, and have one of them teach others the concepts/rules of effective communication.

Make a cycle so that each one of a group has the opportunity to teach others known information and provide their own examples.Provide feedback: Give evaluation sheet to each trainee in the group and ask to him to provide feedback to other group members. Go around each group to provide feedback yourself. Compare the sheets to confirm and check the correctness and accuracy of results.Assess performance: Ask trainees to write down the skills necessary for effective communication. Ask them to quote unique examples for each skill mentioned.

Enhance retention and transfer:Facilitate and provide trainees with variety of reviews and link to a study of interpersonal communication at Google Inc.
