eciar que la actitud con la que se aborda la posibilidad de unificar los territorios meridionales del Nuevo Mundo conlleva matices diversos en cada caso; que viajan desde el entusiasmo al escepticismo, tal vez con alguna escala en los dominios de la confianza y el anhelo. Sin embargo, en todos los textos se tratan determinados conceptos clave; sobre todo por su trascendencia en la propia historia del continente hispanoamericano. Entre los temas aludidos destacan la opresión, el despotismo, la injusticia y la revolución motivada por la imposición de creencias y los privilegios de castas; lo cual se traduce en lucha por la independencia con el fin de contrarrestar la opresión ejercida por la colonización española.

Igualmente, se registra el ritmo de los acontecimientos históricos como motor de cambio en pos de la igualdad; además de la posibilidad de configurar distintos gobiernos y territorios propios que efectivamente validen su existencia como unión de naciones. En definitiva, se trata de textos en los que se manifiesta la posibilidad de unificar territorios como solución para obtener la independencia y favorecer el progreso de Latinoamérica; si bien es cierto que en cada cual la confianza en que tal posibilidad pueda llevarse a cabo trasciende en mayor o menor medida, tal y como se detallará a continuación.

En cuanto a la primera de las obras citadas, el autor defiende en su Carta de Jamaica los lemas heredados de la Revolución Francesa como base histórica sobre la que fundar la sociedad y nos presenta al continente americano como ente necesitado de protección. Así pues, su visión queda patente en las siguientes palabras: “Cuando las águilas francesas.; entonces quedamos en la orfandad”. Evidentemente, la orfandad a la que se alude implica la falta de un referente aún necesario para llevar a los pueblos americanos hacia la libertad, lo cual tendrá plena influencia en la visión pesimista que Bolívar presenta de cara a la posibilidad
