During analysis, it is important to first determine the absorbance spectrum. This shows how the wavelength affects the absorbance of photons. The spectrum itself is a plot of the wavelength against the absorbance, and is characterized by the maximum wavelength at which there is the greatest absorbance. This wavelength characterizes molecules in the compound and provides information about the electronic structure of the sample to be analyzed.
