The response time between loading pages should be less than 3 seconds. (Sireteanu). Some other considerations are colors – websites should not excessively use them, and less than five different colors is recommended. The colors should not be flashy or saturated.(Sireteanu). Horizontal scrolling should be avoided, and vertical scrolling should be kept to a minimum, and the format should read top to bottom, and from left to right. (Sireteanu). The navigation must be linear. Animation should be avoided, as it might be “distracting, obtrusive, disruptive and fatiguing,”(Hong et al. p. 61), as should symbols, as they might offend.

Other considerations are that good websites are interactive, defined as “the extent to which users can participate in modifying the form or content of a mediated environment in real time,” (Jiang & Benbasat 2007, p. 5) and vivid, defined as “the representational richness of a mediated environment as defined by its formal features, ie, the way in which an environment presents information to the sense.

” (Jiang & Benbasat 2007, p. 5). To be vivid, a website must be interesting emotionally, imagery-provoking and concrete, and spatially or temporally proximate. (Jiang & Benbasat 2007, p. 6). A website can be interactive by allowing users to manipulate online images, such as giving them the ability to make a product picture larger, or be able to look at a product from different angles, or by giving the users a chance to sample the products features by using a mouse to press its functional buttons.
