Extract of sample "Significance of Normal Curve"

Previously IQ score is calculated by using a particular method and that is the ratio of the person’s mental age (MA) and the person’s chronological age (CA) then this ratio is multiplied by 100. It means:

MA/CAx100= IQ

But in modern days this formula is not at all used. Instead of that modern statistical methods are used. This statistical method compares the person’s actual performance with the average performance.

“The normal IQ score is still 100, meaning that the average score people get is 100. That happens because IQ test scores have a so-called “normal” distribution. In a normal distribution, most of the values cluster around the average with few values that differ significantly from it. That creates a bell-shaped curve, known as the IQ bell curve, which is illustrated below.” (2)

The normal distribution expressed in the bell curve is very important. “The normal curve represents a distribution of values where the mean, median, and mode are equal to one another.”(3)

In short, the normal curve is called the visual representation of the distribution. It is used by the teachers for assigning grades. The normal curve is also used to explain the distance between the sample and the entire population.
