03 December 2009 Voice over IP At the present, there are various modem and up-to technologies available in the market. The VoIP is a new network technology that offers a lot of significant advantages regarding better communication. According to Unuth (2009) VoIP is most important approach of doing phone calls using Internet as this facilitates making the calls completely free or cheaper. Unuth (2009) describes that the in this modern age of technology the phone set is not so necessary, and presently we can communicate without a telephone set (Unuth). Moreover, this new type of communication facilitates the similar communication as telephone without loss in reliability, functionality or quality; as well as in fulfillment by the ITU (or International Telecommunications Union) presented communication specifications. The term of VoIP is as well employed to denote the software and hardware utilized to perform such calls over the Internet network (BestPriceComputers).
Internet Telephony is acknowledged as Voice over IP, which facilitates people to speak to other people over the Internet. Specifically, Internet telephony makes use of the Internet in place of public switch telephone to establish a connection between a calling party and one or more called parties. To do an Internet call, caller needs to install Internet telephone software. Because when the caller talks into a computer microphone, then the Internet telephone software and the computer’s sound card digitize and condense voice and then distribute the compressed voice over the Internet to the target party or listener. In the same way, a call receiver also needs to install the Internet telephone software as software at the receiving end reverse this procedure as a result call receiver can listen what caller party have said (Shelly, Cashman and Vermaat 464). In every VoIP communication system, caller’s voice is transformed into online data packets of data, similar to small files, as well as then distributed to the target or receiver over the web/Internet as well as decoded at the receiver end back into our voice. Also, to complete this process quickly, these online data packets are compressed prior to distribute, in the same way as we zip our files and folders for reducing their size (ProgrammerWorld)
VoIP communication offers lot of advantages regarding better and effective communication. Below I have outlined some main advantages of the VoIP technology: (Garden), (BestPriceComputers), (Unuth) and (TechTarget):
Technology available on existing communication network, no need for additional technology structure.
Facility of IVR, conference calling, automatic redial, call forwarding well as caller ID qualities and features that customary telecommunication corporations offer with extra charges, however here we have these facilitates free of cost.
Reduces Costs
Facility of transmission of more telephone calls on a single Internet connection.
Safe and secure calls by means of standardized protocols like that facility of online security through the Secure Real-time Transport Protocol
Location independence, no matter where caller is located.
Incorporation and integration with other services attainable over the Internet
There are some of the disadvantages of the VoIP technology those are: (FCC), (TechTarget), (BestPriceComputers) and (Unuth):
A number of VoIP services do not work during the failure of broadband Internet power outages, until Internet service provider may not facilitate through the backup power
Not entire VoIP services link directly to different emergency services like that 911. There are lots of efforts performed in this direction for joining emergence service and VoIP additional information available on this link:
VoIP technology providers do not provide the white page listings or directory assistance.
There are several applications of the VoIP in the business market and domestic market: (MyvoipProvider), (BestPriceComputers), (TechTarget), and (Unuth)
Personal communication (talk with friends, family, colleagues)
Corporate communication
Closed loop linking
Worldwide communication where mobile or phone technology are too expensive

...any need to wait for responses. The use of HTTP pipelining allows the reduction of lag time since the client can send multiple requests at the same time and can then wait for their corresponding responses (W3, 2004 b). The use of this technique allows drastic improvements in the internet connection speed since HTML pages and other content tends to load faster. The typical TCP packet is constructed such that it houses multiple HTTP requests due to HTTP pipelining. Consequently, HTTP pipelining aids in sending a lower number of TCP packets on the network to perform the same tasks which allows a reduction in the overall network load and congestion.
