Its scientific name is Amphiprion ocellaris ( 2007a).
Clownfish is called anemone fish because of its symbiotic relationship with sea anemones (Hoff 1996). Symbiosis can be defined as a process in which, both the organisms are benefited because of the relationship that is formed between them. Clownfish and sea anemone forms a symbiotic association with the anemone due to which, clownfish as well as the sea anemone, both are mutually in advantage ( 2007b). As far as its habitat is concerned, the clownfish is found in warm waters, which are oceanic and sultry (Boyer 2009). The clownfish is usually at most 5 inches long and at least 2 inches small. The male clownfish is smaller in size than female clownfish (Randall, et. al 1997).
There is a very interesting fact about clownfish and its gender. When a clownfish gives birth, all the newly born are males ( 2007a). In fact, the clownfish is male at its birth and remains male until it becomes dominant than other male clownfish around it. ...of the physiological characteristics and genotype of the male partner and thus have high likelihood of influencing female choice. However the study of birdsong and its evolutionary significance in influencing female choice is yet at its infancy. Many new aspects are beginning to emerge. Deriving conclusions and making generalization at this stage would be inappropriate and inaccurate. MALE BIRD SONG EVOLVES IN ORDER TO ATTRACT A FEMALE FOR MATING INTRODUCTION Birdsong can be defined as long complex vocalizations produced mainly in breeding season (Catchpole & Slater, 1995). The best known birds in terms of their singing abilities are oscine birds, also referred to as passerines or perching birds. They belong to the order...

Challenge of sex and mating

...? Preventing Incest: The Evolved Psychological Aversion Technique College Introduction One of the most important causes of genetic disorders in humans occurs when mating pairs are blood relations. It can lead to congenital birth defects, some of which can be extremely harmful or even fatal to the child born of an incestuous coupling (Potts & Wakeland, 1993). Socially, however, incest is one of the most common taboos found in a multitude of cultures, suggesting that there may have been a psychological-based evolutionary adaptation designed to prevent incest and the genetic deformities that come alongside it. The purpose of this paper is to explore the problem of incest with respect to sex and mating and...

It is crucial to evaluate both parties in the interactions of predator and prey especially as both parties would likely be affected differently, eventually implying changes in the life of each party. Nereis succinea reproduction: (la) The mass spawning for the N. succinea is mostly seen from June to September at night during a new or full moon with temperatures higher than 16oC. This must however be influenced by the location population (Ram et al., 1999). The females give off the cysteine-glutathione disulphide (CSSG) when they swim. Such pheromone, first discovered by Zeeck et al. in 1998, seems to attract mates at depressed concentrations. The...

...Mate choice & plumage polymorphism in the feral pigeon (Columba livia) Introduction: Columba livia commonly called as feral pigeons are polymorphic for both colour and pattern in plumage. Mate choice is a common phenomenon in feral pigeons because they are paired throughout their life. Feral pigeons exhibited two sorts of mating – size based and plumage based. “Feral pigeons (Columba livia) showed two sorts of non-random mating: size based Assortative mating and plumage-based Disassortative mating.” (Johnston & Johnson 1989, p.1). Males choose their partner based on size while females choose males with different plumage colour and...

Zoology article from NYT

...Zoology article from NYT In the article Best Case Scenario: Two Chances to Mate, Sindya Bhandoo focuses on the matingbehaviour of male orb-web spiders that revealed an interesting pattern in their mating patterns. Apparently, they can mate with a second female in case she is a virgin and heavy. Using the Argiope bruennichi species, the study found that 80% of the times, the females were successful in eating their mates after the initial copulation (Bhanoo). During the mating process, the pedipalp that transfers the sperm from the male is broken off while in the female to form a plug. Consequently, this prevents any subsequent fertilization of eggs by...

Explain how specific male and female traits are correlated to reproductive success, and how this has affected human mating preferences

... How male and female traits correlates to reproductive success and their effect on human mating preference. Sexual selection is an important natural phenomenon of reproduction. Reproductive success in both males and females is vital in maintaining the existence of lineages within populations and avoiding extinction of species (Cartwright 17). Understanding the identification of traits that affect the reproductive system is necessary in order to understand the evolutionary process. However, it is worth noting that mating success does not necessarily mean reproductive success (Cartwright 17). Factors that contribute to longevity influence reproductive success in males in comparison to trait factors. The reproductive value of males... is not...
