GLOBAL WARMING IN KUWAIT Global Warming in Kuwait June 06, 2009 I. Introduction and Theoretical Framework A. Background to the problem is that Kuwaitis one of the leading producers of crude oil and crude is the main reason for global warming. Other research have covered general issues of global warming when this research would focus on Kuwait related issues.C. The research would be both qualitative and quantitative.

Survey instruments would be used along with a case study approach.II. Statement of the ProblemA. The problem would be derived from literature review and media reports about the dangers caused by global warming.B. I will look at the problem as the world phenomenon and then drill down to the national level of Kuwait. This would give an idea of the enormity of the issues.C. The research has to be conducted by conducting a literature review that would explain the problems typical for oil producing nation an desert regions.III. Purpose of the StudyA.

The purpose of the study is determine the impact of global warming, its causes and what can be done by Kuwait to reduce the ill effects of global warming.B. The central idea of the study is to find out how governments can prevail on its industries and business and people to mitigate the risks of global warming and to take actions to reduce the carbon footprint.C. The study will use the method of qualitative and quantitative research. Survey instrument would be used to find out what experts feel about the problem.D. The unit of analysis for this study is the Liker 5 point scale.IV. Review of the LiteratureA.

Other studies that are related are the studies published by global warming institutes, foundations such as Greenpace, UNO and other oceanographic studies.B. The study is important since it is focussed on Kuwait and what the government and people of Kuwait can do.C. Other studies have concentrated more on theory and scientific aspects of global warming. This study will address the gap of what common people can do to fight global warming.V. Questions and HypothesisA. The hypothesis that this research would address are: ‘Global warming causes can be controlled to a great extent by individuals, business and government’.

‘Current awareness of global warming among residents of Kuwait is less’. ‘Many households and business waste a lot of energy and power and use inefficient heating and cooling methods’. ‘Sustainable methods o of power generation and water harvesting can reduce problems of global warming’.B. The dependant variables are the power consumed per person; amount of carbon release per person. The independent variables are the overall carbon foot print caused by the Kuwait oil industry.VI. The Design – Methods and ProceduresA.

Methods used for study will include literature review, observations through field visits and interviews with technical and lay people.B. Variables that would be controlled are the power consumed per person, carbon footprint per person. Random variables would be demography of the study groups and subjects for interviews.C. I will interview people, post questionnaires on websites and ask people to respond by filling them out.D. Data will be analysed using SPSS and other statistical software packages and or other methods of analysis.VIII. Significance of the StudyA.

The research would make Kuwait residents realise how much energy and natural resources they are wasting and how the wastage can be reduced and reduce global warming.B. Sociologists can use the results to study various social ills, alcoholism, rape and other crimes and how they have an effect on global warming.C. As a result of the study, it is hoped that people will become more aware of the social ills caused by global warming and how the threats can be reduced.ReferencesMacionis John. 2002.
