Genesis is the beginning of everything God created. 2. Exodus-Exodus is a narrative. This narrative tells of the Jews exodus from Egypt under Moses’ leadership. The theme is the Jews’ struggle to leave Egypt and find the promise land. Moses led the Jewish people out of Egypt after the Red Sea parted. The Jewish people then wandered in the wilderness in order to find the promise land. One memorable event was the mannah from heaven. God fed his people through out their journey. Moses did not get to go into the promise land, but the Jews made it.

The book ends with the building of the Tabernacle. 3. Leviticus-Leviticus is a book on the law. Leviticus is the code of law handed down to the Levites that describes priestly duties and congregation duties. Theses laws include ritual elements and worship rituals. Ritual cleanliness and uncleanliness are also discussed. Laws for the congregation include the Ten Commandments. Laws about the Sabbath and annual feasts were laid out. Laws about sorcery and witchcraft were mentioned. The laws were given to Aaron during the Exodus.

Aaron and his sons were priests. His sons were killed by fire after offending God. 4. Numbers-Numbers is part census, part narrative. In the first part of Numbers all the people of all tribes were numbered. Then the journey from the Sinai to Moab was recorded. The spies were sent out in this book. The murmuring of the people eight times was recorded. All of the hardships between the Sinai and crossing the Jordan River were recorded in this book. Because of the murmuring of the people, God made the Jews wander forty years.

God promised only a select few would enter the promise land. At the end of the forty years, the Jews had diminished in number. 5. Deuteronomy-Deuteronomy is a sermon by Moses which also gives some laws. In this book Moses warns against the disobedience of the Jews towards God. Moses lectures on how
