Extract of sample "Running a Household Efficiently"

Running a household efficiently has its negative factors as the person who would be fully responsible for the household chores for a week may get tired and fatigued. This may lead to other stress factors in his/her life.

Would the relationship still be equitable if Donna continued to do all the housework and Hector was responsible for household, car repairs, and yard work? Why, or why not?

Yes, the relationship will be equitable even if Donna assumed the charge of all the housework. This would ensure that both individuals are having a satisfied life and are busy with their own responsibilities. However, both individuals should make sure that they are performing their responsibilities rightfully. This would help both of them realize the importance of each other in their lives as both responsibilities are linked with each other. If Donna does a good job in performing her responsibility Hector would appreciate and similarly if Hector would perform his responsibility well Donna would appreciate it.

How were the household chores divided in the household in which you were raised?

In my house, the chores were divided between my father and my mother in a convenient manner. My mother was responsible for each and everything which happened in the house i.e. she had total responsibility for the household chores in my house. However, my father also helped my mother in fulfilling her responsibilities. When he returned from his work he usually helped her complete the tasks of the house. This way both had a feeling of responsibility which helped them realize the importance of each other in their lives.

If you currently have a significant other with whom you share a residence, what is the current division of labor? Are you happy with the current division of labor?

Presently I am living with my husband and we share equal responsibilities. As they and he both work, we usually help each other in fulfilling the household chores together. Both of us are designated the same tasks and this makes us live in an equal environment. Yes, I am satisfied with the division of labor between him and him.

CASE STUDY 2

What suggestions would you have made to Kent and Alice? Kent and Karen?

The relationship between Kent and Alice was a strong one but due to the mistakes committed by both of them, they had to suffer and go through the problem of divorce. Kent and Alice should have shown more understanding of each other's lives and should have maintained a feeling of trust in each other. Similarly, Kent and Alice should have learned to sacrifice for the sake of the relationship. Either Kent should have changed his course of life to give adequate time to Alice in the night or Alice should have changed hers. Alice could have been suggested a job so as to she could sleep early like Kent.

The relationship between Kent and Karen was not strong from the very beginning. It was just based on the principles of sex and lust. However, this relationship could also have been successful if both of them had sacrificed their personal needs. Kent should have learned to be more patient when concerning the issue of housekeeping and cooking. He should have spent time with Karen and should have helped her in fulfilling the chores of the house. And Karen should have shown more care towards Kent and should have realized the importance of her responsibilities. Similarly, if this wasn’t working out division of labor should have been sought by both of the individuals to ensure that both of them are going through the same situation. This would have helped both of them to realize the problems of each other.

What percentage of your needs would a partner have to fulfill to make you feel that he/she is the right partner for you?

As a female, I would like that my partner should be loving and caring to me. He should have complete faith in me and whatever I do. The person I marry would be sacrificial and would not only care for his needs. By sacrificial here I mean that he would not enforce his needs on me and would let me live as I like to. Similarly, I d learn to live by his likes and dislikes and would understand the nature of our relationship. He would further realize the problems that I face and would help me to recover from them.
