Barrett outlined several points that come from the aforementioned observation and realization. Looking at it at a high level, Barrett tackled what is going on around the world referencing significant improvements in technology that have changed the face of humanity and the world. He then moved on to discuss the importance of such technologies highlighting his company’s contribution to the evolution of technology. With this, Barrett pointed out two important opportunity areas where technology can be utilized to not only change how things are done but to deliver benefits to the population. These are the areas of healthcare and education.

Lastly, according to him, the road to continued technological growth and innovation is powered by the human genius; the one responsible for bringing and maximizing what technology has to offer.

Based on the profile of Barrett, it could be noted that he has a strong advocacy for improving education in the United States as well as the rest of the world. Being a staunch supporter of research in academia, Craig together, with Intel, has made significant partnerships with educational institutions to promote and fund numerous research programs. With Intel focused on product-oriented research devoting around $6 billion annually for research and development, he strongly believes that research is vital for innovation and moving the nation and the world. Because of this, he has poured significant investments into research with these institutions to help improve and build on technology as it exists at the moment with a vision of the fulfillment of what Gordon Moore postulated and predicted decades ago.

About his company Intel, it has been reported that Barrett’s concern is capitalizing on the rapidly evolving digital world. The prospects in the electronic sector are great. As believed by Intel, standardization is key to ensuring that the different technologies produced and provided by different companies will work together. As such, Intel is looking into the expansion of manufacturing products that people want (What does the future hold for Intel, Apple, and Microsoft, 2004).

Finally, Barrett in his 2004 article has been known to echo the same sentiments in the lecture He has been known to be an advocate of innovation. As such only through innovation could one attain prosperity (Barrett, 2004).

Barrett began his lecture by talking about the current landscape of the world, taking into account technology’s inevitable hand in shaping the economy to arrive at what is called a global knowledge economy. Indeed, looking into the world’s present history, various significant events led to the establishment of a new market economy. The fall of the former Soviet Union, the conclusion of the isolationist period in India, and China’s decision to open itself to the rest of the world finally enabling trade with the West are some of these milestones that quite quickly overhauled the world. With India and China holding more than half of the world’s population, I agree with the observations of Mr. Barrrett that it was only once in history has more than half of the world’s population has shifted from one economic system to another as the world welcomed almost three billion new capitalists to the free economic system of the world.

In line with this, it could be taken into account what was hinted that in the huge changes undergone by the world in terms of economy, there are, of course, losers and winners. The advent of competition has changed the rules of the game for firms in different industries. Because of this, survival is key hence a strategy must be employed to stay in the game. This was apparent, as Barrett pointed out in the emergence of China, India, russia, and other economies which boomed at the turn of the century.
