Major Project Introduction One of the most pertinent issues of the modern world is child abuse which “is a very complex and dangerous set of problems that include child neglect and the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of children” (Definition Child abuse. 1999). The significant form of child abuse is the physical abuse, though it exists in various other forms like child neglect, child labour, sexual abuse and the emotional abuse. The WHO which is involved in various activities to prevent child maltreatment which “includes all forms of physical and emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, and exploitation that results in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, development or dignity” (Child maltreatment. 2008). The statistics about the issue of child abuse is alarming and calls for effective campaign against the victimisation of children. “Each week, child protective services (CPS) agencies throughout the United States receive more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect” (Iannelli 2007). According to a study which inspected the differences in annual health care costs between women with and without histories of abuse, came to the conclusion that “childhood abuse and neglect histories were reported by 42.8% of the women in this HMO sample (sexual abuse: 18.4%; physical abuse: 14.2%; emotional abuse: 24.1%; emotional neglect: 21.1%; physical neglect: 12.2%), with about half of these women meeting severity criteria for more than one type of maltreatment” (Walkeret al 1999, p. 609-613). Specification of the Business Case within the Business Context The project under consideration chiefly aims at the campaign against child abuse, by means of advertisement, through the effective media of Television which has a wider reach to the larger sections of the society. Let us remember the following facts. “98. 5 percent of U.S. households have at least one television set,” “90% of U.S. households have two or more TV sets,” “87% of U.S. households have at least one VCR or DVD player,” “The average U.S. home has the TV on more than 51 hours a week.” (Obviously, the TV is on many more hours a week than each family member spends watching it.) Apart from the great social purpose, the project has a higher possibility of success and of expansion of the business among the cause-oriented groups and establishments due, mainly, to the social nature of the issue. Project Requirements, Aims and Objectives The foremost requirement of the project is the establishment of an efficient project team comprising of a director, production assistant, scriptwriter, editor, visual artist, cameraman and other crew members deemed essential. This group will, mainly, be responsible for the project realisation which includes the stages of pre-production, production, and post production. The first stage involves project design, based on the researcher’s material, pre-planning, the conception of project materials and equipments like the video camera, props, costumes, selection of actors and location and others for the purpose effective production. The major aims and objectives of the project may be listed as: 1. Production of an effective advocacy campaign against child abuse. 2. Popularization of the ad campaign. 3. Bringing forth of people’s support. 4. Formation of funds for the rescue of abused children. 5. Expansion of the business by attracting more clients at the realisation of the project. The Scope Definition This project of against child abuse, in particular physical abuse, campaign via Tele Vision advertisement, targets specifically the parents and elders and generally all those who consider the issue a relevant one to be highlighted. The project concentrates on the physical abuse of children and the follow-up project will present the centres to be informed of the abuse incidents. First of all, sufficient research material and data including statistics on the number of abused children in specific areas and time frame, the type of physical maltreatment, the probable reasons of the abuse and the people involved etc needs to be collected. The storyline and the flow of production will be based on these materials along with the project objectives. The story line needs to concentrate on the physical abuse alone in order not to confuse the audience and elicit the audience support, morally and financially, for the charitable activities in relation with child abuse. Thus, the most important element is the proper use of these. This is a very challenging endeavour and involves various risks. However, the proper implementation of the project, keeping all its objectives, plans, and procedures will make sure its success. There is a greater possibility of the acceptance of the project realisation by the public and, therefore, the enhancement of the business is possible.
