Personal Statement for University of California - Admission/Application Essay Example

Choosing a degree is a challenge that has been dilemma of anyone who is pursuing higher education. This entails the consideration of one's interest, career objectives educational institutions and personal goals. Considering these, I believe that pursuing a degree in Biology/Human Biology from the University of California will not only provide professional opportunities but also allow me to contribute productively to society as well. The demand for professionals with the degree is on the rise with as a response to the industrial and social need to improve research and applications which in turn directly impact development and quality of life (Eyster 323-324).

There is also significant room for growth in pursuing the degree academically and professionally (Schrader 1262-1263). Moreover, there is the opportunity to develop my interest in the field and acquire the critical skills and knowledge so that I can contribute to this endeavor, if not lead it. Emigrating from Taiwan at the age of ten to California, sciences were among the subjects that I easily appreciate and even enjoyed. On one hand, there is its systematic approach to knowledge and on the other hand, I believed that had a genuine consideration for human life and welfare.

As the years passed by, I also observe that biological sciences have been employed more significantly in all fields of interest: criminal justice systems have established teams for biological evidence forensic investigation, health issues have become global in scale and nations have begun to recognize the need for multilateral agreements to govern environmental issues among others. In all of these instances, biological sciences are involved from developing evidence for the concern to developing solutions.

This has been further reinforced by my subsequent experience as a volunteer in the San Dimas Hospital Laboratory. Though my interest was in pharmacy, the time I spent with the laboratory has helped me develop personal insights and appreciate even more careers in biological or life sciences. This has exposed not only to the value of Biology/Human Biology as a choice for a degree but also its value as lifelong career. Assisting technicians in the laboratory, I was tasked to organize and database test results to coordinate the information and communication needs of the department.

This has highlighted to me the value of test information in delivering the best care to individual clients and the significance of these individual data to possible long tern research studies. Furthermore, working side by side with professionals dedicated not only to their jobs but to health as a social institution has strengthened by conviction of the value of a degree to pursue a career in this flied. In conclusion, I believe that gaining a degree in Biology/Human Biology will provide me the best foundation for a future career in pharmacy.

I have no doubt that it will provide me a comprehensive knowledge that will help me to be an effective and efficient professional in this field. Therefore, I hope that I can be given the opportunity to pursue this degree in the esteemed institution of the University of California which I believe is a keystone for success in the career that I have chosen.
