Adopting Strategies in Raising Levels of Attainment of KS3 Written By: The primary aims of the education system within the computing specialist school in KS3 being to facilitate methods for students to attain their highest achievements of potential regardless of their primary levels upon entry and to show each student individually that compassion, flexibility, sensitivity, respect and tolerance would be utilized in every choice that would be made. A factor that must be addressed in improving the capacity of students to achieve greater heights at a pace equal to their peers within the same class must first be assessed in the aspect of literacy, for without literacy one cannot strive for full achievement. In recent years there have been a great many emerging initiatives that have been designed to promote literacy. Understanding these initiatives and applying them toward secondary education is a singularly important concept toward the ability to teach effectively in the KS3 environment. In order to effectively raise attainment at KS3 there are certain steps that must be considered. Those steps are: Fully adapt and differentiate the National Strategy, making it suitable for students. Consistent teaching and learning of an adapted National Strategy. Centralise assessment and monitoring of students' progress leading to improved and more regular feedback to students. Improve the administration and paperwork systems. There is a growing concern in KS3 level schools with the current state of literacy. That concern would be the decline in literacy standards in the UK. This is an issue fiercely debated and so reiterating those arguments would be of no benefit. With the statistics that have been gathered and compared historically as well as reviewed with the current international evidence, standards of literacy in the United Kingdom would hardly be high enough for a sizeable proportion of the number of students. Yet, in order to be flexible, we must be willing to give each student a baseline level from which to start, and then we must ascertain goals for their further achievement. I believe that there is room within the National Strategy to adopt a much more refined approach to the teaching methods at KS3. An example of this consideration would be, higher ability students may be able to surpass the specification of the strategy. I also would believe that lower ability students may not be fully able to achieve all of the objectives in the National Strategy and it would be more appropriate in this case for them to spend longer periods acquiring solid basic ICT skills and understanding. To maintain standards in educational tolerance and sensitivity, we must learn about each student individually. This would be for their benefit to not only realize their goals and aspirations but to know their potential limitations and help them in the discovery of methods toward surpassing those limitations in order to gain access to their aspirations. Professors must also provide the students the outside methods toward attaining confidence in their ability to learn new skills in forwarding their education. Consistent teaching and learning is managed in order to improve attainment resources for teaching and learning in the form of revision guides, coursework help, lesson plans, worksheets, tasks and links to other sites. This has often resulted in improved consistency in teaching and would also have enabled students' access to useful materials encouraging independent learning. Consistency in teaching and learning at KS3 schools which would contain similar information, learning resources and homework for the younger students' use is an important factor to consider as well and then following that up with sharing copies of completed projects so teachers are aware of what students should have learned after completion of particular units. This is one thing that specialist schools, such as the Computing Specialist school that would cater to so many different nationalities would strive for, the ability for students to realize that we as professors are there to not only teach them about goals and aspirations, but to prove to them that their aspirations and goals are achievable. In this way, professors are able to show their flexibility, their compassion toward the capabilities and fallibilities of both the students and the professors. Respect toward not only the achievement of new skills, but the existence of the drive to learn and achieve those skills would be a necessary component of teaching in all forms. Regardless of ethnicity, every student has the capacity to learn if they are to apply themselves and it would be up to the student and the professor to form a team effort toward this achievement. Yet a team is nothing without outside support from the parents and it would be vital to the success of any educational pursuit to have a full understanding of the methods taught by the professors and the abilities of the students to learn them. Having an open mind is of vital importance in first gaining achievement and then surpassing the goal that was set. At this point there should be a method to improve administration and paperwork systems in KS3. Students attending KS3 should have the ability to take their work home and work on it outside the confines of the classroom environment. Once a student completes the KS2 primary education, their results should be able to be relayed to the secondary schools. This should be automatic in nature. Secondary schools then should manage a baseline for each student in some form other than testing, perhaps based on their learning capacity in KS2 according to evaluations there. Secondary should look at individuals as to their capacity of achievement, not as a number. Mapping out what occurs in accordance to the various ethnic groups would also be important. This includes literacy, numeracy, and individual factors the likes of organizational skills, whether the groups are mixed accordingly and whether each student would be with friends or apart from them and whether this would affect their individual learning process. Differentials within the various classes should be clarified. In conclusion it is my aim to produce confident, independent learners a thorough capacity for self assessment. In this manner gaining independence in their education and the capacity to achieve will further their aspirations toward higher goals. Providing a baseline for their understanding and my ability to interact with them and then first ascertaining their learning level prior to assigning the individual goals as well as the overall goals for each individual student is an important step toward gaining understanding and the capacity for learning. Taking the steps outlined in the National Strategy and adapting them to the differentials provided by the learning styles of each student is an important aspect for consideration and would in fact manage to be one of the goals set to achieve as a teacher.
