Conference Moderator - Essay Example

As a conference moderator, a person's job is to begin with an initial introduction to set the stage, give examples, and ask questions, as well as twoother steps that will follow this initial setup. At this point, the purpose is to state the topic and determine the initial setup for that topic. The topic for this purpose is, as robots are a future possibility of replacing the human in the workplace, do you think they can completely replace a human being. According to Brain:If you walk into a restaurant, hotel or store in 1950, it would be nearly identical to a restaurant, hotel or store today.

People do everything in both cases-people stock the shelves, prepare the food, serve the food, help customers, man the cash registers and sweep the floor in 2003 just like they did in 1950. It's the same on any construction site. In 1950, guys with circular saws and hammers built houses. Today it is guys with circular saws and nail guns. No big difference. An airport in 1950 and an airport today are nearly identical. People take your tickets, handle the baggage, maintain the planes, and pilot them in both cases.

Coney Island in 1950 looks like any amusement park today, with people operating the rides, selling the concessions and keeping the park clean. (Brain, Robots in 2015, 2008) The point of the above passage is that certain industries will likely never be replaced by robots or technology alone. Despite all of the technological innovations that have taken place in the latter half of the past century, there are still a lot of jobs that are largely unaffected by automation. These are often called people-powered industries.

Perhaps the most astonishing part is that these types of jobs make up over one-half of the jobs in America (Brain, Robots in 2015, 2008). The next part of this series is to set up some questions. The following would be some excellent questions to research in a conference:1. What are some jobs that are virtually untouched by automation today besides the ones that have already been listed above2. What are some typical automated systems that people interact with on a daily basis in the course of their regular routines3.

What are some of the advantages of typical tasks such as visiting the ATM becoming automated4. What are some of the major drawbacks that the world as a whole faces from massive automation5. What are some steps that the world can take to help lessen the major drawbacks mentioned above6. Do you think that there will ever become a point where intelligent robots replace even the jobs that are mentioned above7. What type of technology does it take to produce automated systems and robots like the ones we are discussing here8.

What types of costs are associated with these massive technological innovations becoming widespread9. What types of tasks do you think that a humanoid robot designed to help around the house could perform10.
