MSc Virology I have applied for this because I have a disposition towards finding out what causes infectious diseases, as an undergraduate student I relished the experience of studying about the pathogenesis of infectious diseases. I would want to cure as many people as I possibly can after finding out the cure for several deadly diseases and this can only happen when I learn more about viruses. I believe that understanding of the role of viruses in disease pathogenesis at the molecular level is the key to enabling the development of new therapies to fight pathogenic viruses, and I have a strong desire to contribute to this field.

As my ultimate ambition is to enter the pharmaceutical industry as a virologist, I feel that this course will provide me with essential background knowledge.The main reason for my application for this particular programme of study is related to my academic experiences whilst reading Biochemistry at Imperial College and in particular the specific modules of personal interest to me, Molecular Biology and Molecular Cell Biology. Moreover, driven by my interest in microbiology, I studied Molecular Basis of Bacterial Infection as one of my final year modules, which gave me an understanding of some of the fundamental principles of infectious diseases and molecular mechanisms used by specific bacteria during infection.

Based on this, as well as my intrinsic interest for this research area, I believe that I possess the inherent tools required to build on and enhance my comprehension of the role of Virologists during the taught MSc course, tools prerequisite for working in the pharmaceutical industry.I have always held a keen interest in infectious agents and have directed my studies so far towards achieving success within this important area of study. My final year literature research project was based on the prevalent human pathogen Chlamydia.

My project was different in that it focused particularly on the invasion mechanisms of Chlamydia and my task was to propose a new model for Chlamydial entry addressing disparities and gaps in the current models. I also enjoyed the challenge of designing a set of experiments using molecular biology techniques to test out my hypotheses. In addition, I critically appraised my own model and the predicted outcomes of the proposed experiments. I successfully completed my project achieving a grade of 2.1.Having researched the MSc Virology programme at Imperial College, I feel that this is the programme and institution, which will offer me the best preparation for further study as I intend to use the master's degree as a stepping stone to do a PhD.

Having completed my undergraduate studies at Imperial College, I am also attracted to the institution by its reputation for excellence and the opportunities I will have to work with renowned academics. I would love to become a scientist; I am thoroughly convinced that my educational background and my experience are good enough for such a prestigious institution. I believe that I have the requisite skills and the drive to be successful in pursuing the MSc course in The Molecular Biology and Pathology of Viruses at Imperial College.

This institution can enable me to achieve my goal and it can make me live my dream, I am ready to work as hard as I possibly can in order to live my dream.
