DESIGN MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING LECTURES Action For Age: Product Introduction and Launching Introduction The thought of old age brings with it a conflict of images. There is the one image of lost youth, declining strength, and finally the possibility of a lonely death. The other image is that of having achieved something in life and getting respect and honor. The dilemma of dealing with old age has naturally deterred the attitude of the once sociable people into becoming less acquainted to the society that they are living in. It is likely unbearable for them to actually accept that this is already their new state. As a result, an old person becomes overly concerned about certain issues that drive him to become much lonelier about his life. A person's attitude may need to be adjusted; it could be at the root of his unhappiness. For instance, some elderly people insist on living alone well beyond their ability to care for themselves. One woman who was disabled and was living alone on a large piece of property posted a sign on her door that said: "Keep Out!" She felt that all anybody wanted was her money or property; she distrusted everyone. Such a person is not growing old with understanding. What a sad situation! True, not everybody can be trusted. But how much wiser it is to accept the fact that some can be trusted and to receive the friendship and assistance of those genuinely trying to be helpful! Some elderly ones may feel that they have lived out their lives. But they are still living, and they will find it beneficial to keep their minds active and to use their thinking abilities to the full. Learning new things is not beyond their capabilities and can be enriching, although it may take longer for them to learn than when they were young. For this particular reason, as derived from the explanations on the causes of old age loneliness, a product that would help old aged individuals deal with the adversaries of the fact that they are already living the last years of their lives, shall be introduced within the context of this paper. The New Product Knowing how marketing and innovative product presentation works for the understanding of the market with regards a particular product released into their midst, it is then enough to identify the need to concentrate on how to utilize the said effective approach effectively in introducing a new product into the society. In this regard, product for the elderly aimed to making the said individuals more active and lively in their old age is the focus of the said process. Keeping the elderly active and well functioning in terms of their mental and limited physical abilities even beyond their old age. Through this product, engaging the said individuals into more active events and socially acquainted situations shall be the main focus of the system so as to help the elderly become less isolated as old age comes into their face. The product noted herein is a self-motivation speech presentation video that shows how older people should accept their state as the "old ones". However, besides accepting the fact, the video shall better the situation to making it happen for the individual to realize his/her capability of living life fully besides the challenge of physical weakness. Each old person is to be encouraged by this video to socially better their health and rather relate to others instead of keeping themselves behind doors. What the Product Features It is believed that the physical attribute of a person deteriorates faster than that of the mind. This is the primary reason why a motivational video is introduced to the said demographic bracket as noted herein. Understandably, the process by which old people use their time is the target activity of the producers of this product. Most of today's elderly are finding the dilemma of not being able to find something to do when they really want to exercise their minds once in a while. Presenting the availability of the product to the said market would become much of an easier task to complete for the marketer. Through presenting the product in a way that it would be most inviting to the older bracket of the society, the distribution of the said video presentation would be easy. As the video is described as a motivational speech pertaining to how old people should be able to enjoy their old age, one of the major features that the product holds is its being personalized in approach. Through the use of 3D animation as well as the use of soothing and reflective sound, the entire 40 minute speech and presentation is sure to entice both the interest and the willingness of the viewer to change their attitude towards life and spend the last years of living in more productive activities that would help them leave a legacy among those that they love. Situational Basis of the Production of the Video A vocational school's instructions on geriatrics say that older ones need to feel that they have independence of mind and body. They must also feel that they are loved and needed, that they are useful and can do things for themselves. Moreover, those instructions say that the elderly need the sense of belonging that can be had in a family and with friends and that they would benefit from religious association. What, then, is the best attitude for aging people to display An optimistic viewpoint can be a real help. One who apparently looked upon old age as a new chapter in life was the 90-year-old mother of a former U.S. president.(Kaufman, 2007, 65) In her memoirs she wrote: "Old age need not be feared .It can be rich and fulfilling . The qualities of our later life will be determined by the life we have already shaped."(Kaufman, 2007, 66) Such a disposition adds more meaning to the later years of life. Hence, the previously noted instructions on geriatrics observed that happy oldsters are the ones who have managed to educate themselves by embarking on new and satisfying interests, learning and cultivating challenging hobbies, enjoying meaningful experiences and friendships, learning to appreciate life and to live within their physical capabilities. What about enduring life's inevitable problems The book On Growing Old says: "It surely goes without saying that if a man has access to higher values and especially to the power which is inherent in belief he will be better able to endure ... Old people above all should seek to strengthen their religious bonds."(Luke, 2001, 45) Productive activity and doing things for others can help a person to grow old gracefully. A group of retired craftsmen, some over 70, kept up their skills by providing low-cost home repairs for pensioners in the Greater Vancouver, Canada, area. Concerning the effect this work had on the craftsmen themselves, one man said: "It's good therapy. It keeps them active."(Luke, 2001, 49) The newspaper report said they are "not tired, just retired." (Luke, 2001, 50) These men also think that watching TV for the rest of one's life is only for the very tired. Hence, through the product offered herein, it could be assured that once an old-aged individual who is feeling really low about his life and about his being old would watch the video suggested in this paper, he would be able to gain better understanding of his situation. The video presentation along with all the experiences of old-aged individuals included within the said CD presentation is sure to capture the senses of the old-aged individuals to value their elderly state and thus be able to consider living their lives continuously to its fullest. SWOT ANALYSIS of the Product Conclusion Marketing is one particular branch of business that deals with all the promotional aspects of a certain business organization. At some point, this particular sector of the organization is perceived to have a certain group of experts attending to the said needs of the organization with regards promotion and advertising. Every kind of organization have their own marketing branch. This is specifically because of the fact that the incoming profit that the company expects from its clients is particularly empowered by the marketing strategies created by the marketing group. Whatever it is that the Marketing group plans shall determine the organization's success in the industry. The ability of the said in-charged group in making amends for the organization's ability to make it within the industrial competition in the business world shall make it possible for the business to make a considerable reputation that could attract the clients who are being targeted by the said organization. This is particularly the reason why business organizations both large-scale and small-scale make it a point that the marketing procedures that they carry on for the sake of business progression is given careful attention and as well as an ample amount of investment. Considering the product being suggested in this paper, it could be noted that the aligning of the process of promoting the product along with the attitude and the situation of the target market, the said process of marketing would certainly work especially if given the chance to be handled effectively towards the betterment of the lives of the target market.
