BC M.S in Finance & MBA Dual Degree - Admission/Application Essay Example

What are your career goals upon graduating from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College Please be specific. How will the dual degree program assist you in achieving career success in your chosen field My Career goal upon graduating from the Carroll school of Management is to become an investment manager. I want to be able to influence the way future clients will invest their money. In order to achieve this goal I need a sound foundation of academic knowledge in addition to work experience. The M.S in finance program has been an excellent program in helping me to gain that knowledge.

I want to continue my development by completing an MBA at Boston College. My career goal after leaving Boston College is to become an investment manager. I want to blend the skills that I gained from my workplace with the knowledge gained from school, to become a dependable investment manager for my clients. Being an investment expert will provide an opportunity to showcase my skills and be able to influence the way people manage their assets. An investment manager must have the ability to identify and understand key data figures.

I therefore need to have a sound understanding about how the financial markets work. I have to have an understanding of the history of the markets, so when something unexpected occurs like the lowering of Fed interest rates I must be able to assess how that affects my portfolio. Furthermore, market trends are very important; if the market falls I need to have the knowledge to reassure my clients that everything will be ok and accordingly guide them about the expected dates or timeframe of return to normalcy. The M.S in finance program has proved to be a big boost in gaining that knowledge.

The program has allowed me to integrate theories and analytical skills learned in classroom with my regular job. Taking interactive lectures from learned and experienced professors at BC has been one of the best experiences I've ever had. In fact in just one semester I gained good enough knowledge relevant to my work area that I could apply it to my daily job. For example, now if my manager asks me to create a hedge calc ratio I can do it with confidence, because of my knowledge about binomial pricing, which I learned in investments.

This program has indeed helped me in putting to shape my plans for future course of action, as far as career prospects are concerned. I want to continue this growth after I'm finished with the M.S in finance program by completing the MBA program. After talking with other students, I realized that the MBA program is an excellent opportunity to broaden my knowledge horizon in key realms of the business field. These classes touch upon the related subjects in business operations. I believe it's important not only to gain the theoretical knowledge about the subject but how the theory takes practical shape in business field is much more crucial.

In addition, I believe there is huge potential for personal growth while taking part in the community service requirements of the program. During my undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst I participated in a blood drive, bone marrow drive, book drive, habitat for humanity, and other community service opportunities through my fraternity. Some of the best personal experiences I've had in my life were in the form of helping out others through these events. I want to continue my personal growth in the MBA program at Boston College.

I want to be able to use the skills from work and schools to become a dependable investment manger. In order to reach this goal I need to have a strong understanding of how the markets work. The M.S program at Boston College has helped provide me with the knowledge to begin incorporating academic knowledge with practical work experience. I want to continue my growth with an MBA degree at BC.
