Having mentioned that he established the Taliban, it is important to mention that I.S.I.S. or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, which is the official name of the group, is a breakaway group of the Taliban. Also known as ISIL, the group broke away from the Taliban last February 2014 and rapidly began to outshine its mother group. Due to the little information that the rest of the world, including the United States, has about the group, there is some confusion as to the true objective of the group and how it began and where it is heading in the future.

Only one thing seems to be known about it at this time, its influence is far-reaching because the group knows how to use the internet accessible media to its propaganda advantage. That is what the general world population knows about I.S.I.S. This is the information that is easily accessible to people. However, not all American students seem to be well versed in all things I.S.I.S. While there are some students who do care about world events, not everyone really pays particular attention to the news, specifically about I.S.I.S. Knowing this information, our group set out to find out if the Indiana State University student population had any knowledge about I.S.I.

S, what they knew, what they understood, and how they felt about the problems the group presented. Our intention was to prove through our survey, that the ISU students are different from their counterparts because they are knowledgeable about I.S.I.S. and the problems accompanying the group. The results of that survey are presented and discussed in great detail within this essay. Accompanying the discussion are various other points of view and information that relate directly to the survey we undertook.

As an Islamic state, I.S.I.S. has yet to be understood by the rest of the world as even the most brilliant military strategists of this century seem divided as to how to best depict the group and its extremist inclinations.
