The topic I chose is HIV. Studying HIV is very important because people infected with HIV are increasing in number everywhere in general and in the US in particular and they are in need of medical help. There is a severe need to control HIV and also explore ways for the treatment of patients suffering from HIV. This requires new research as an effective treatment for HIV has not yet been found. There are two basic ways to control HIV; first, take precautionary measures to minimize the chances of acquisition of HIV, and second, seek immediate medical help if diagnosed with HIV. I will do this literature review to find out what treatment options have been realized for HIV to date. I shall study the extent to which these treatment options have been found effective. I shall find out what are barriers to the identification of such a treatment for HIV that can completely eliminate the virus from the body because to date, all treatments and medications are only effective to the extent of minimizing the viral load in the bloodstream, and they cannot altogether eliminate the virus from the blood (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 2013). Identification of these barriers is one of the prerequisites of realization of measures that can be taken to find out a way of treatment of HIV that can eliminate the virus from the blood. This research will generate knowledge that will be of immense value to doctors and physicians as well as scientists and researchers.
