Preveneered Stainless Steel Crowns and Zirconia crowns are new materials used in pediatric dentistry. The aim was to investigate and compare the Fracture resistance of four commercially available esthetic crowns. Sixty-four anterior crowns from four companies were used. Crowns used were Preveenered NuSmile Signature Primary Crowns [Orthodontic Technologies Inc. Houston, TX] (n= 16); Preveneered Cheng crowns [Peter Cheng Orthodontic Laboratory Philadelphia, PA] (n= 16), Zirconia NuSmileZRCrowns [Orthodontic Technologies Inc.
Houston, TX] (n= 16), and Zirconia Cheng crown [Peter Cheng Orthodontic Laboratory Philadelphia, PA] (n= 16). Crowns from the four companies were mounted and cemented on a negative replica. Each replica was placed under a servohydraulic mechanical universal testing machine (Instron, Model 5965, Norwood, MA). Force was applied at 90° with a crosshead speed of I mm/min. until they fracture. Maximum breaking loads were also recorded in Newtons (N). Data collected was then analyzed and quantitated using software that measured the fracture resistance of the crowns.
All Data was entered into the computer and analyzed using the Statistical Program of Social Sciences (SPSS) to determine the difference in the fracture resistance of each crown. CHAPTER ONE ABSTRACT Introduction: Preveneered Stainless Steel Crowns and Zirconia crowns are new materials used in pediatric dentistry. Their use in the field of pediatric dentistry has been embraced because of the efficiency. The materials have different properties which is why they have different impacts when used.
One of these properties is their ability to withstand externals forces and resist fractures. Objectives: The aim was to investigate and compare the Fracture resistance of four commercially available esthetic crowns. Material and methods: Sixty-four anterior crowns from four companies were used. Crowns used were PreveeneredNuSmileSignature Primary Crowns [Orthodontic Technologies Inc. Houston, TX] (n= 16); Preveneered Cheng crowns [Peter Cheng Orthodontic Laboratory Philadelphia, PA] (n= 16), Zirconia NuSmileZRCrowns [Orthodontic Technologies Inc.
Houston, TX] (n= 16), and Zirconia Cheng crown [Peter Cheng Orthodontic Laboratory Philadelphia, PA] (n= 16).
