Bodily fluids found when investigating rape and assault can also be very valuable when analyzed. The DNA can be a very powerful source of evidence. However, there are debates about the uses serology has been put to and in recent years these debates have become more rancorous. One of the most radical transformations in evidence collection in recent years in the criminal justice system is the use of DNA. Considered by some to be a silver bullet, conclusively proving guilt, DNA’s significance can be hard to defend against and may create an insurmountable burden for an innocent defendant.

It is documented that there is a high level of error in laboratories, and it is possible for DNA samples to be switched. This is an important consideration when evaluating the uses of serology. An accident like this combined with circumstantial evidence would almost certainly result in a guilty verdict. Likewise, sophisticated criminals have been known to plant false DNA evidence at the crime scene in order to shift attention away from themselves. This is an important thing to keep in mind when considering serology. Read More

Serology Lab Report

...?INTRODUCTION Presumptive blood tests are important, especially in the field of Forensics. The presence or absence of blood may corroborate the ment of a witness. Its specificity lies on the reaction of the chemicals to hemoglobin, a major component of blood. In this experiment, the presumptive test of blood was performed using leuchomalachite green (LMG), phenolphthalein (PPT), and hydrogen peroxide. In the blood, hydrogen peroxide is degraded by peroxidase of hemoglobin into hydrogen and oxygen, turning the solution basic. The specificity of this test lies on the fact that hemoglobin is only contained in blood. This change in pH is then detected by phenolphthalein, and the solution turns into pink quickly, or leuchomalachite... Presumptive...

...and collected her underpants that were stained with semen. Furthermore, the girl’s bed sheets with scattered hair were also collected. After the victim described the perpetrator, the police came up with a sketch that resembled the suspect. The victim identified the suspect as the rapist once they got to his hideout (Neufeld 2005, p. 107). Serology can determine the victim’s semen through the quality assurance approach. This can support the prosecutor when securing a conviction. The lab serologist will take the girl’s body fluid found in the semen and test whether they match with the accused blood type. Scientific standards discourage serologists from drawing inferences about the semen’s source when they are not sure...

... remission. Secondary data which were measured immediately upon admission into the experimental study included the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index, or SLEDAI, the lupus serology test results as determined by the antinuclear antibody and anti-double-stranded DNA antibody, the test on complement C3 and C4, and the test on end-organ function determined by creatinine clearance, and the carbon monoxide diffusion lung capacity. Immunofluorescence was used to measure the determinants of the lupus serology tests (Burt et al., 2006). The study is also a longitudinal study because of the daily administrations of drugs that helped initiate leukapheresis. The mobilization of peripheral blood stem cells were triggered...

Human Ehrlichiosis

...Ehrlichia have improved, the process presently remains too prolonged (five to 12 days), too unavailable and too unreliable to be of clinical assistance in most cases. Serology uses an indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) method and must include antigens to E. chaffeensis and E. equi. Since these organisms have many antigenic differences, a test for one organism will generally not detect the other. Traditionally, the diagnosis is made by comparison of paired acute and convalescent sera, showing a four-fold rise or fall with peak titer at least 1:64 or single titer at least 1:128. Obviously, this information comes too late to be of use in treatment, and an antibody response may never even develop in patients given...

...examination of such items for its presence may not provide the evidence. It is imperative that the time between the assault and the examination can be a critical factor in the accurate diagnosis of bodily fluids because longer the time span more will be the loss of the evidence (Gefrides, L). The evidence is processed and note taking is performed during serology analysis as this is the first time the evidence is unwrapped in the laboratory. It is the responsibility of the serologists for documenting the type, quality and packaging of the evidence that is received in the laboratory. The serological methods adopted for the Forensic serology examination are straightforward. The...

...serology Spalding (2005) maintained that forensic serology deals with different body fluids such as blood, saliva, semen, urine and vaginal secretions, wherein samples are not necessarily fresh, but are in stain form, or has degraded or deteriorated. The analysis of various bodily fluids are performed to ascertain the source at the crime scene or on an object considered as evidence in a crime. As of 2000, advances in forensic serology includes the use of the reagent flourescein for dilute blood detection, other than the traditional luminal; and the development of the method (called multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction for a more reliable identification of bodily...

... means the results were not sufficient to match the DNA from the sample to that from the suspect (Butler, 2011). Serology is the study of blood and its constituents and these tests depend on antigen-antibody reactions. The conventional methods of serology use polymorphic antigens, enzymes and proteins in blood or other body fluids. Serology can be utilized in individualization and the categories for these tests are serum or protein groups, enzymes and blood groups. Antibodies in blood and other body fluids can be found in decomposing bodies and, therefore, serology can be conducted on the decomposing body. The test that can be conducted in this case is blood typing which is often referred to as ABO typing. Although serological tests can...

... a multiple day period (Crump, Corder, Henshaw & Reller, 2004). Secondary antibody response boosts immunogenic response when second, and subsequent antigen exposure occurs. The response is stronger and has a shorter lag time than the primary immune response. Importance of Acute and Convalescent Serum Specimens Acute and convalescent serum specimens are collected for antibody serology in order to determine the presence of antibodies following an infection. The collection of acute and convalescent serum specimens for serologic diagnosis of infection differs in amount and period with respect to the infection under scrutiny. References CDC,. (2015). Astrology as a Pseudo-Science

These claims belie its true nature in that it has, and will always remain a pseudo-science.
For the purpose of this proper analysis, our ancestors created a chart to provide the apparent yearly path of the sun with respect to the stars and planets from the eyes of a viewer on earth. This chart was divided into twelve equal sections, and these sections were designated after the constellation that was situated within its limits as per the ancient times.
