Placement Report on TV Production (Students Name) (Institution) (Date) Introduction The placement period was an instrumental stage in my academic and professional pursuit. It furnished me with sufficient experience and professionalism in the development of my career. It acted as a bridge between the classroom theories and the practical aspects of learning. I am presently a student at RMIT. Besides, my prospects in the learning process are to become a qualified film producer. The education process has expanded my interest in the TV production which has further been advanced during my placement period. Presently, I possess relevant and present experience in TV production and all activities ancillary to show production. This came after my experience in the TV show referred to as ‘if you are the one’. The placement period furnished my career in the TV production and allowed me to inculcate my knowledge in the work experience. The vast program s in the TV broadcasts, and the processes of creating the news items provided good fodder for my experience. I look forward to reaching a professional mark in my education experience, especially in film production. Additionally, my career expectations are to work in a TV channel or similarly top work in the media department of an organisation or company. This expectation remains in line with my education and profession pursuit in the film production and TV production. This report details some of the exact activities carried out during my placement period, and the learning experienced received during this period. Besides, it integrates various career expectations and objectives in my learning process. Final Module The journey through the spectacles of media pursuit has been intense and demanding. This begins from the classroom experience accompanied by various theories and learning themes in TV production and media in general. The experience at RMIT has been instrumental in imparting relevant knowledge in my course work. The academic journey has integrated various modules and learning experience within the classroom that has expanded my knowledge. One is of learning that has been of equal advantage in the education system at RMIT regards the theoretical knowledge on the production techniques and latest technology in the TV production. The recent advancements in technology and the preference range of the customers have brought significant changes in the TV production. Therefore, the modules learnt at the institutions have brought significant knowledge and interest in the use of the latest technology in actualizing the production of the TV programs. What I learnt Besides the classroom experience, I have been the privilege to get a placement opportunity at a famous TV station. The TV station which is known in Australia and beyond is referred to as jest. The placement opportunity was granted between the year 2012 and 2012. The experience provided an opportunity for me to gain practical knowledge in the TV industry and also to apply my theoretical knowledge to advance my career expectations and experience. Besides, it provided a good avenue to advance my career in other board TV production aspects besides program production and launch. One particular 9interes during this period was in the production of one of the known TV programs referred to as ‘if you are the one’. This is one of the widely watched and received programs within Australia and beyond. The program received wide broadcasts in SBS among other channels. The experience in the production of this program and in working with a reputable TV channel expanded my knowledge to a great extent in the TV production. During this period, I was an intern at the centre of the production of the TV channel. The entire production crew actively engaged in the production of the program, and this gave me a close attachment to the entire process. One of the areas of significance in this production was to participate in the filming if the cast. The production was cast in different locations with different actors and different points. Normally, a TV show of this nature occurs in episodes. This, therefore, requires a season production period in which the cast occurs in different moments through a set cast period. Therefore, the filming crew undertakes to ensure that they identify the best locations and the reasonable grounds to aid in the filming of the TV show. During this period, I was closely attached to the filming crew. This enabled me to master the art in using the different camera and the filming tools during a production cast. In some places, I assisted in the actual filming of the scenes. The crew allowed me the opportunity to handle the various filming tools and to have the exact touch in the production. This allowed me to further expand my knowledge and interest in the use of the various filming tools and equipment. The other aspect which I learnt during the casting of this TV production was the actual editing and mastering of the video into the final production. Normally, the process of doing a television production requires the intense process of mixing both the picture and the sound. After the field work which involves taking the casts and the video, the editing crew begins their actual mastering process. Editing is usually the most intensive and difficult aspect of the filming operations. It involves a keen and careful integrating of the picture and the sound from the filming scene. The theoretical knower provides some of the techniques of performing the editing and the various activities to consider during the filming process (Patz 2010). However, it’s devoid of the practical aspect which involves the actual editing. The production of ‘if you are the one’ offered me a great knowledge and practical experience in the editing of a film. The other important activity which I learnt during my placement period regards the translation of written script in the actual production process. Every filming process of the production of reputable TV shows requires the first process of writing the expected result at the end of the production process. Some feature a story while other operates in episodes which stretch for a given period. Therefore, the filming process integrates such written knowledge in the production process to bring out the required picture or result. The production of this film is entitled ‘if you are the one’ took the format of translation from a written story into an actual acting process (Dawson, Andrew & Holmes, Sean 2012). The filming crew were following the written script which was them mastered by every participant in the play. However, the most crucial aspect learnt in the production process was on how the translation forms a written script into an actual video production with all participants acknowledging their roles happened quite easily. Lastly, my experience at jest enabled me to learn how to operate most of the production tools used in the TV programs. The process of producing a TV show or normal filming experience requires the use and the handling of various tools and machines. Most of these machines equally integrate the use of modern technology. Therefore, most of them require a well-trained expert to handle and manage their use (Angell & British Film Institute 1988). However, it’s prudent for a person tasked to work in the TV house in any media section of the company to understand the basics of the use of most of these machines and tools. My experience during the placement period offered me an opportunity to learn the basics of most of the machines and tools use in the TV productions. Besides, I gained relevant knowledge in the manner of operating most of these tools such as the camera, lighting systems, and cast backgrounds among other tools to bring out the best quality in the filming work. What I need to do Content I still have some work and knowledge to add in my content regarding the remaining modules. One particular aspect which remains for me to know relates to the use of the TV programs and productions to run a commercial platform. My experience during the internship was at a TV channel. However, the media encompasses various sections including the media departments in various organisations. I need to acquire the use of the media in the company or various organisations. In particular, I need relevant information regarding the particular contents of the media production of a commercial organisation. In many cases, the commercial organisations such as company rely on their media for purposes of marketability and to ensure the growth in their profitability. This is a separate objective form most of the media houses or TV channels. Therefore, I need relevant knowledge of the particular information to include within the contents of such commercial media platform (Cross & Feist 2013). Also, I need to ensure that in the next module, I gain relevant knowledge on the application of culture in the media production and TV production. The immediate and the surrounding society dictate the kind of the programs and the media productions in any setup. For example, the kind of the TV channels and programs released within a country highly integrate the culture of such a country. This implies that most of the products must be aligned to the cultural codes and acceptance in of the society. Various countries have different cultures. This, therefore, implies that the knowledge in the production of the TV programs need to integrate such differences within the various countries and also ensure that a particular TV show is accepted and acknowledged in the society (Bernstein & Screen Actors Guild 1960). Technology The level of advancements in the technology world requires a constant process of knowledge and experience in the use of technology. In many cases, the changes and advancements in the technological scene demand a regular pattern of knowledge. I, therefore, require additional knowledge on some of the aspects which I need to consider in the use of the ever-changing technology. The manner of integrating the new technology into the existing system for purposes of improving g the quality of production remain as one of my expected achievement in the remaining modules (Pittaro 1959). This relates to the need of knowledge on Information Management Systems (IMS) as an integral part in the production of the TV films and the general media industry. The remaining modules need to concentrate in the management of technological change in the process of improving the kind of quality in the final production process. Aesthetics The beauty of a TV production or any film depends on the principle of Aesthetics of Production. My placement experience provided me with practical knowledge of the use of aesthetics in the production process. For example, I was able to understand the role of colour identifying the best production backgrounds and scenes for a film production. This allowed us to perfect the beauty of the TV program which we produced during my internship moment (Stradling 2010). However, I still experience a knowledge gap in the integration of racial differences in the beautification and making a production more acceptable. In many cases, the programs produced and the videos which attract a wide viewing acknowledge the existence of various races in the world. This places some of the acting roles separate and specific for some races. I still have a provable in assigning various roles and parts of film productions depending on the racial advantages. Therefore, the next module needs to enable me to understand this concept so as to be able to provide a more global and wide viewing for my production. Conclusion This report has been based on my internship period in jest channel between 2012 and 2014. The process provided me with a practical feel of TV production and filming. Also, it provided me with a proper area for integrating my theoretical knowledge into practical aspects. This paper also outlines the various experience and knowledge received during my internship moment including operations of the machines and the film editing process. Further, the report recognises some of the areas which I need to cover in my next module for further experience in this profession. Reference Angell, R., & British Film Institute. (1988).
