INTRODUCTION This proposal is for a TV show, SFactor modelled along the lines of the super-hit TV show Xfactor. The plan covers the details of the show and the way in which the show is proposed to be organised along with the cost analysis for the same. The proposal hinges on the assumption that the SFactor would be a crowd puller and that because of its perceived popularity would bring in the ratings needed for justify the costs involved in producing the show. This has been arrived at after calculations of the revenues grossed by the Xfactor show and the projections for the Sfactor rely on these revenue estimates. The name Sfactor has been chosen as it portrays the “singing” aspect of the show along with the indescribable quality that is the factor part of the name. As with the Xfactor, the show aims to highlight the positive aspects of singing and give budding singers in Nigeria a chance to prove their talent and get lucrative singing contracts as well. The advertising plan in the proposal covers the aspects of how the show is going to pay for itself. The proposed cost plan shows how much investment is needed initially along with how the investment is expected to be recouped. DESCRIPTION OF THE SHOW This section would provide an overview of what the proposed show is all about. It will be called the Sfactor similar to the Xfactor show in the UK. It is a singing competition and would consist of 12 final contestants. There will be 4 judges and 2 hosts, auditions will take place in 6 states around the country Nigeria, the states are Lagos, Kaduna, Portharcourt, Benin, Abuja and Enugu and should last for 10weeks. There will also be the super factor which would show the funniest moments through the auditions to the final stage. As outlined in the succeeding sections, the winners of each round are chosen by rankings given by the judges as well as through SMS polls sent by the viewers. However, there would be more emphasis on the points given by the judges. The contestants would be judged on their singing abilities along with their ability to blend their songs within different genres. This is one part of the show where the contestants get a chance to display their multifaceted abilities. The show would have two hosts and each round would have two judges who would be common to all the rounds and two judges who would be rotated after each round. What this means is that the two judges would change with each round whereas there would be two judges who would be constant to all the rounds. The judges would be drawn from the music fraternity and they would be eminent singers and music directors themselves. PROPOSED SHOW PLAN The proposed show would be open to all singers who are above 18 years of age. The registration for the show is through the internet as well as traditional channels like applying in person and other media. The show would pit contestants against each other and taking them through successive rounds that include singing the whole numbers and identifying the songs as well as singing different genres of songs. The requirement for the show is that participants cannot sing the same song that has been sung before in the show. The proposed show would be initially open to males over 18 years of age and then depending on the response to the show, it can be extended to the women participants as well. The winner of the finals would get a singing contract with one of the proposed sponsors, who would be a record company. The organisers of the show do not have any further say after the winner signs the contract with the record company. The winner of each round would be decided by the judges for that round as well as by voting by the general public for their favourite contestants through SMS’s sent by them. Before the show goes on air, there would be auditions for the show conducted in all the major cities of Nigeria where the contestants would get a chance to appear in the televised version of the show. As detailed in the advertising plan, the auditions would need to be promoted to attract a large number of participants. The success of Sfactor depends to a large extent on the number of aspirants that it can attract along with the TRP’s (Television Rating Points) that it can generate for the networks. This in turn would result in the spot rates for advertisements to be competitive and generate enough revenue for the show. PROPOSED ADVERTISING PLAN In this section, we detail the advertising plan for the show as well as the promotional for the show that has to be mounted as part of marketing the show. The advertising plan for the show involves getting the sponsors and the advertisers to display their ads when the show is being aired. The show would be aired at prime time and the advertisements would take up the slots available in the breaks between the rounds. These rounds are the stages in each episode and should not be confused with the rounds that make up the path to the final. The show needs to be promoted in a big way so as to garner eyeball share and also the fact that large numbers of participants are crucial to the success of the show. The show would be promoted across the print and visual media along with radio spots and web ads. All available forms of media would be used to promote the show. The advertising budget would form part of the cost analysis for the show. COST ANALYSIS In this section, we discuss the cost analysis for the show including the initial setup costs as well as the time it would take to break even and recoup the investment. The show would cost around 1 Million GBP to be sunk in initially. This cost is arrived at after estimating the studio costs, network fees, promotional expenditure and the monies needed to pay the judges and the contestants along with the costs needed for auditions to be conducted in all the major cities of Nigeria. The show is expected to break even in six months and subsequently recoup the investment. The further investments for the show would have to be made from the advertising revenue as well as the royalties that the networks pay to the organisers of the show. The cost analysis for the proposed show envisages a TRP of 2-3 points for the show and the show would be aired at prime time. The spot rates for the ads would depend on the 10 second slots that are available for the sponsors as well as advertisers for the show. CONCLUSION This proposal has touched upon the aspects of the proposed show that would make it a success. As the preceding sections have shown, the success of the show hinges upon large number of participants as well as increased viewership for the show. The costs associated with the show are expected to be financed by the network that is sponsoring the show along with the rest of the sponsors. In conclusion, the proposal makes a strong pitch for the show to take off and become a reality. The proposal is aimed at providing a realistic account of the different facets involved in making the show a success. We conclude this proposal with the hope that the show would indeed be the “factor” in television programs. Read More
