Impact of regulations on field of production Before probing into the topic of impact of regulations on the professional working life in the field of production, let’s first get to know what actually production means. Production means to manufacture or create something new. The basic meaning of production is to create or innovate something which is of audience’s interest from different perspectives. When we talk about production, we should also talk about the role of production in the media industry or what production means in the media sector. Production in the media sector In media sector, production means to produce or generate any particular event or any form of entertainment. The different forms of entertainments which can be produced by the media production industry are movies, dramas, theatres, sports events and talk shows. Having gained some knowledge about production in the media sector, let’s now get to know what media is and why it’s importance in the current era. Media Media is referred to as a tool for communication these days. Media is used to communicate and transfer some sort of data from one place to another. When we want to transmit or deliver some data to some other place or some other person, a tool is used for that purpose and that tool is media. Manohar (2008) states that media is a double-edged sword which means that there are positive effects of media as well as negative influences of media. Media has gained a critical importance in the present era because of its reach and access to all parts of the world. Any sort of news can now be delivered to any place at any time when an effective and efficient media is present. Gone are the days when we had to wait for a number of days to get some news delivered to a person. It can be achieved now in just a few seconds by the help of media. When we talk about media, we should also know some basic forms of media production which are working effectively these days. These forms of media are: Electronic media production Advertising media production Digital media production Mass media production, and News media production Regulations in the production field While talking about media and its different forms, we must also talk about those regulations which are a part of production in every country. Here we are not talking about regulations in the media industry; rather we are talking about regulations in the field of production in general. Regulations are very necessary in any field of production these days. Regulations are designed to control, manage and organize an individual’s acts. Different rules and regulations are set in order to restrict an individual’s actions. Talking about regulations, we should also know what an efficient regulation is. Efficient regulation means those sets of rules and regulations in which the total reimbursements for a few people surpass the total occurring cost to others. The reason for necessary implementation of regulations in the field of production is that regulations make a production free of any sort of calamity any misfortunes. When a thing is produced abiding various regulations regarding its production, it’s safety and reliability can be ensured. But when regulations are not taken into consideration while manufacturing a thing or product, then it may not provide a required level of safety and reliability. So, we can say that regulations are of critical importance in the field of production and various sets of rules and regulations must be taken into consideration while developing any sort of product because reliability and quality makes a product successful and when all regulations will be applied to any specific product, in that case it’s success and quality will definitely be ensured. Regulations in the field of media production If we talk about the regulations in the field of media production, we can say that regulations are proving out to be very advantageous for the quality media production. We should say that if we are making any film, drama, theatre or producing any such event, we must abide by different rules and regulations regarding those events because those rules and regulations are not only beneficial for the quality production of any specific event but also it is very valuable and helpful for transmitting proper information to the targeted audience. No such news or information should be delivered to the audience which deviates from social or ethical values. And regulations ensure that all the information which is being transmitted to the audience is free of any such disinformation regarding any issue. We should also say that regulations in the field of media production are turning out to be a necessary and the most valuable part of production because it ensures quality of production. If we want t make our event successful, we must abide by certain rules and regulations regarding that event in order to make it successful. Regulations in the media production field means by those rules, policies and mechanisms which guarantees security, reliability, trustworthiness, correctness and appropriateness of any sort of production. So, it is very necessary to apply all the rules and regulations on any sort of media production for the purpose of successful and quality production of any event, movie or drama we plan to produce because it will not only be in favor of the us as producers but also for the public who will come out and see our productions. Different regulations affecting media production While talking about importance of abiding by the rules and regulations regarding media production, let’s now get to know different forms of regulations which have either positive or negative impact on the filed of media production. Dizazzo (2004) found that regulations regarding media productions are of critical importance in the media industry. Some of these regulations which affect media productions are: Adult material check Political regulations Market failures Collective desires Irreversibility regulations Social values regulations Religious values regulations Cultural values regulations Regulations regarding outdoor shootings, and Regulations regarding safety and security of artists All of these different forms of regulations have a deep impact on a production professional in his working life. They have either positive impact or a negative impact on a professional’s working life. A professional from production filed must abide by all rules and regulations set by the policy makers in order to produce a quality production for the audience. Working life of a professional may get affect due to these rules and regulations but at the end of the day he will come out with a quality production if he takes into consideration all the set rule and regulations while producing any drama, movie or an event. Let’s now discuss the impacts of above mentioned forms of regulations on the professional working life of a media production professional. The impact will be shown on a media producer whose role is to produce a motion picture and other television productions. Another role is to create productions while considering all the technical aspects of a picture. Impact of adult material check regulations If we talk about regulations regarding adult material check in the productions of different movies and dramas, we should say that it has a very positive affect on the audience and the producers. The regulation regarding this matter is that no sexual exhibiting material could be shown in a family movie or drama. Producers will make such movies in which adult material could be eradicated and a family movie could be launched this way. The working life of the executive producer will become more constructive and dynamic because he will be able to fully concentrate on the issues which are not sexually offensive and a family may come to the cinema or theatre to enjoy that movie. The producer will be able to find out issues other than sexually offensive issues. His mental approach towards a constructive movie will become more effective and efficient when he will know that he has to develop such a movie or drama which a whole family will come to see not just adults. Impact of political regulations While talking about impact of regulations on working life of a media production professional, let’s discuss a very important impact which a regulation can make. The regulation which we are talking about is political regulation. Political regulations are beneficial as well as it has got some disadvantages for the media production professional. Beneficial in a sense that when a producer will not have authority to make some picture or drama on political matters, people will not get offensive about the corruptions as they will not get to know what’s happening around them and what’s not. But it will affect a producer’s professional life in a sense that he will be stopped from presenting the true picture of his country’s politicians. Political regulations are disadvantageous in a way that people will not get to know about their government’s character and also the moral of the producer professional will go down as they will have no authority of writing the truth regarding the government. Impact of social values regulations This impact will happen in a sense that when the regulations will be made for preserving social values, production professional will not be able to make pictures and dramas which show negative aspects of the social behaviors and values of the society. Negative image of a society’s people always promotes negativity in the people. Regulations will help the society keep the positive image on the screen. Producers will have no authority to promote negativity of the social values just for making money and gaining audience’s interest in their produced drams and movies. We should say that this form of regulation will be very beneficial for the public but less beneficial for the production professional as they will not be able to promote negative image of the society just for the sake of making money. Impact of religious values regulations While talking about impact of regulations on the working life of a production professional, let’s now discuss another important regulation and that is said to be religious regulations on a media production industry. Religious regulations mean by that set of regulations which prevents the producer of a media industry from creating such movies which promotes the extremism regarding any specific religion. It will be beneficial for the producer’s professional working life as he will be able to make such productions which will present positive and fair picture of any specific religion. He will have certain limits and boundaries within which he will create his productions. He will know what he has to include in his production and what is to be excluded out of it. His working skills will be enhanced as he will learn how to remain within a set of boundaries while making any production regarding either religious or social values. Outdoor shooting regulations If we talk about regulations regarding productions in the media industry, we should discuss another important regulation in this industry and that is outdoor shooting regulations on the producer of any specific media industry. Outdoor shooting regulations mean by that set of regulations which limits the producer from shooting at a location which is restricted due to security and safety reasons. The producer is not allowed to perform shooting of any movie or drama at such locations. It will have a negative impact on a producer’s professional life in a sense that he will not be able to shoot at his desired locations which may suite his production. He will not be able to present a scene at a real location which may have an adverse effect on his productions as making an artificial location is somehow different from the real locations. So we should say that these kind of regulations bring a negative impact on a producer’s professional life. Regulations regarding safety of artists While talking about regulations, another very important regulation is related to safety and security of artists working in any movie or television production. It will be very helpful for the producer’s professional life as the lives of the artists working in his productions will be safe and secure as they will not be allowed to shoot such scenes for a movie which may cause danger to their lives. Such regulations will help producers in developing creative productions which will emphasize more on reality and social issues rather than making such serials which promote crimes and violence in the society. Impact of news regulations If we talk about forms of regulations in the industry of media production, we must talk about regulations regarding news print media. In this form of regulation, producer professional of the news print media will not be allowed to create and transfer any news which has no solid proof behind it. Producer will be restricted from transmitting such news from the television news which is not based on reality or truth. Such regulations exist for the news print media which restricts the producers of the news print media from spreading disinformation regarding any issue. It will help the working life of the production professional in enhancing creative skills based on truth rather than creating disinformation. So these were some forms of regulations in the production industry related to media which have either negative or positive impact on the producers of the media production industry.
