Surname: Presented to Institution Name, Location Date Thе use of statistics in mаthеmаtiсs Introduction Probability refers to the study and analysis of random events in mathematics. The most important function of statistic is that it is used to analyse all the games that relate to chances, predictions, genetics, weather and many other diverse events that takes place in everyday life. Statistics is the subjects in mathematics that allows mathematicians to collect organise and effectively understand arithmetical data (Hogg, 2005). Statistics is used mainly in describing and analysing of many different types of test scores, analysis of results of an election, and also used by shoppers to determine their preferences in some particular products in the market. Statistic has very close and related topics in mathematics that supplement each other in producing the results that is desired and the conclusions that help in making critical and informed decisions. These topics that supplement statistics include probability and algebra. Statistics with these other supplements help in prediction of future events hence surprises are avoided (Larsen Richard, 2001). The need to understand probability in the world today is very necessary, this is due to the fact that all the means of sending information weather print or electronic has statistical information that needs to be interpreted well. The main goal of introducing statistical instructions in learning is meant to make the student very critical and sensible users of statistical instructions. They should be able to apply the statistical processes and principles in the real events in the world to solve many problems. The student should not think simply think that those who did not manage to win the lottery in the days of the past have a greater and batter chance of winning it in the future. This way they should not just belief on the mere statistical results presented to them but they should be very critical by judging weather the information presented to them in terms of statistics are meaningful and whether being used appropriately(Hogg, 2005). Thе use of statistics in mаthеmаtiсs Many people consider statistics as a branch mathematical that deals mainly in the collection, analysis and the interpretation without leaving aside the explanation and presentation of numerical data. There are very many diverse uses of statistics both as a branch in mathematics and in many other disciplines. Statistic is not purely mathematics as it is more than that; it is a science in itself. It is meant to give useful information that is used to draw conclusions and make informed decisions in many other fields (Larsen Richard, 2001). Many statisticians have the quality of data by coming up with precise investigational designs and samples of survey. Statistics as subject itself is very important in mathematics since it avails tools that can be used to predict and forecast the most critical use of data and models of statistics. In mathematics, statistics uses specific methods to manipulate data. These statistical methods can be mainly being described as a collection of numerical data; it is referred as descriptive statistics. These methods are very important in that they communicating the final results of the research done or experiments that are carried out (Larsen Richard, 2001). In addition to this fact, the models of data can be modelled to make way that makes clarity for the random and the uncertain observations (Rietz, 2007). The model that has been presented is used to produce points of inferences about the processes under study; this practice is referred to as inferential statistics. This element of inferential statistics is very important in that it helps a lot in the conclusion making concerning the data that has been presented in random variations. In the bid to prove the propositions that have been investigated deeply, the conclusions that are reached are put into test as well this is taken as a mathematical procedure. The analysis of descriptive statistics of raw data tends to give more detailed information concerning the truth of the topic under investigation (Larsen Richard, 2001). Apart from descriptive statistics, there is another branch of mathematical statistics called applied statistics. This branch of statistics comprise of both the descriptive and the inferential statistics. Applied statistics is theoretical in nature; it is concerned mainly with the logical argumentation that underlies the justification of the approaches towards the statistical inference, this includes the surroundings of the mathematical statistics (Larsen Richard, 2001). Statistics is a very important in helping students to formulate problems and solve them, these problem that can by solved using statistics include those that involve collection, organisation and finally analysis of data (Larsen Richard, 2001). Students that study statistics are given a change to collect objects and thing that can give an analysis of data and discuss on how they do relate. After collecting the data the student have to learn how to analyse the data by being presented with sheets of papers to help them put down their methods of analysis (Rietz, 2007). This is done by helping them sort the data by soma kind of classification. The student in their analysis draw graphs, charts and even the pictures of the samples of the data that they have gathered (Rietz, 2007). Another very important aspect that statistics help to develop the mathematical knowledge in student is that it helps them to be able to generate and analyse data that is obtained by carrying out experiments that gives chances for example the dice and the spinners. Both statistics together with probability help the student to understand how generates data by doing experiments and does his analysis. Through statistical knowledge student improve their knowledge in mathematics since it helps in making inferences and also the art of formulating hypotheses that are based on the data (Larsen Richard, 2001). Through statistical knowledge the students can also improve their mathematical knowledge by getting to understand the informal use of the mathematical concepts of range, median, mean and mode. These concepts are very important in mathematics as it is applied in many fields surrounding the world of mathematics (Hogg, 2005). When commissioned to do experiment in mathematics most of the times students are asked to find middle number, the difference between largest and the smallest outcomes and also then number of figure that most appears in the group of data that has been collected. This way the knowledge gained in doing statistics is very important to mathematics in that it helps students develop very important skills that are applicable in many mathematical experiments (Larsen Richard, 2001). The process of constructing, reading, understanding and interpreting of data presented in pictographs, different types of graphs, tables and even those in a list form is complex but statistics make it very easy for the students, student are given a chance too work in groups while doing this and this way everything goes the easy way. By regularly reading statistical data that has been analysed and presented makes them integrate the mathematical knowledge and improve significantly in the subject (Larsen Richard, 2001). Statistics also helps in making predictions that are highly based on the intuitive, experimental and theoretical chances in mathematics. This significant part of the proceeds of statistics in mathematics is not obtained solely by use of statistics but there has to be probability which is much related with statistics these two disciplines help in improving mathematics by helping the mathematicians draw conclusion which are informed and make decisions that are very reliable in the process (Rietz, 2007). Probability together with statististics also helps the students and the mathematicians’ to understand the use of concepts of certainty, fairness and chance to discuss and evaluate the probability of real and actual events. This is enhanced by encouraging the students to discuss the relationship between events including such examples as flipping a coin and rolling a dice (Rietz, 2007). Statistical knowledge is very important for mathematics while selecting and using the most appropriate graphical representation and the renowned measures of central tendency for different sets of data. These measures of central tendency in mathematics include the mean, median and the mode. The students have to show a greater understanding of the measures of the central tendency by being asked to write an essay to a fellow student telling them how the measures of central tendency describe the data that they have. This will give the students a greater understanding of the terms and how they are applied in the field to solve mathematical and real life problems (Hogg, 2005). The statistical methods are also used are also very importantly used in predicatively in the performing arts, an example of this use is given by the Markov process. This process usually works for a period of time; this is the time in which the prediction process is done using the statistical methods (Larsen Richard, 2001). Statistics in mathematics is very important in designing the statistical experiments meant to study any problem. This is done by conducting the experiments, interpreting the results and finally communicating the results to the relevant people that need to use the data. There are also other very important uses including the predictions that are done using the fitting of the curves and numerical procedures that extrapolate and also extrapolate from the data that is known there is also the use of the relative frequency and probability as appropriately as possible to represent and also to provide solutions to problems that involve the uncertainty (Larsen Richard, 2001). Conclusion The importance of statistics cannot be underestimated in the mathematical world. It is very clear that without knowledge of statistics one cannot pass well mathematics. The concepts that statistics relay to the students are very basic for any student to pass one needs to comprehend and know how to apply the skills that are presented by statistic well. Since statistics is used in almost all disciplines, statistics therefore a universal subject and should be studied by all. Many real life situations also need statistics therefore it is important to learn these skills so as we can have solution to our daily problems. As we have seen statistics can also help in prediction of the future hence it is of very great importance in avoiding future problems by taking precaution after being warned by statistics.
