Response to Nicole’s Post I think Nicole’s post about how she uses mathematics in here everyday life is very enlightening, especially in view of the idea that mathematics is purely academic. She clearly shows that having knowledge of basic mathematical principles and processes is imperative, specifically if you are in a job that requires quick thinking in terms of numbers. She plainly described how mathematics helps her in performing her job as a cashier at a grocery store and an inventory clerk.

She was able to prove the practicality of having basic mathematical knowledge, not only in the workplace, but also at home. It encourages the reader to view mathematics in a more positive, encouraging way. Many cringe just hearing the word ‘math’. But Nicole’s post, although terse, convincingly shows that math should not be feared, but loved. She indirectly tells her readers, in an effective manner, that we have to possess basic mathematical knowledge in order to carry out our most essential activities.

She illustrates how mathematics is firmly connected to our very humanity, our survival, and success. It is clear from her post that we just cannot do away with mathematics.
