Interviews are structured to measure a candidate`s competencies that are related to the job. The process follows systematic inquiries regarding the behavior of the candidates regarding the past experiences and their proposed responses in hypothetical circumstances. First thing, to note, is that employers always seek more information in addition to the required skills from the candidate. This information may include core competencies, personal hygiene, punctuality, good work attitude, logical reasoning, problem-solving capabilities and critical thinking. This information is valuable in helping the candidate secure the job, and for sustaining the job too (Amos, 2009, p. 80).
Through the interview, I will be required to display many of the skills that I have that will make me the excellent candidate to fill the position of a marketing assistant at the University of Boston. I will demonstrate my dynamic and enthusiastic nature in filling the position of a marketing assistant at the University of Bolton. I will display my skills of marketing, communication, media, and information technology. These skills will allow the interview panel to assess my level of engagement with many of the students in the campus and will also raise my profile as the marketing assistant. The profile will also be raised with regard to other placement services to the University`s students, its graduates, and other colleagues at work within the University and outside the University. My creative ideas and skills, coupled with enthusiasm and energy will challenge the University`s employability services. Apart from highlighting my skills, I will support the same by highlighting my practical knowledge of techniques of digital marketing, the capabilities of using social media platforms such as Linked in, Twitter, and Facebook to allow smooth communication with students, other employees and employers, and excellent IT skills. I will also demonstrate my willingness and interest in helping to organize, shape, and run campaigns, events, and employee or student feedback groups (Amos, 2009, p. 80).
Communication skills are vital for marketing professionals. It will be imperative that I demonstrate excellent skills of communication, both written and verbal. I also indicate that I have additional skills including copyrighting for marketing materials. Active is also another crucial aspect of communication skills and is coupled with excellent organization skills. I will give full attention to what the recruitment team will be saying while taking time to understand their points. I will also ask questions that are appropriate (Amos, 2009, p. 80).
Critical thinking skills are also crucial in maintaining the job as a marketing assistant. I will prove that I can employ logic reasoning in identification of strengths and weaknesses associated with alternative solutions, strategies to solve problems and to draw conclusions. My speaking skills are also central since I will be interacting with different kinds of individuals. Speaking skills will go handy with my persuasion skills to show that I can persuade people to shift their thinking with the aim of attaining the University`s targets. Skills of social perceptiveness are equally important. It is vital that reveal my awareness of the reactions of other colleagues, students, and employers, and an understanding of the reasons for the respective reactions. Display of problem solving skills is also vital towards my success in the interview session. I should be able to show that I can identify complex problems, and reviewing information that is related to the problem in order to develop and assess possible approaches for implementing solutions (Amos, 2009, p. 80).
Monitoring and self-assessment skills are also crucial towards enhancing or improving operations. It will be my duty to prove that I can assess my performance as well as that of other people or the University in order to take corrective measures in the marketing department. The processes of judging and making decisions require skills that couple monitoring and self-assessment skills. This will allow me to show that I can consider relative expenses and benefits of probable approaches or actions in order to arrive at the most appropriate. I will also display that I am a good time manager. Through arriving at the place of interview early, I will have showed that I can manage my time effectively, and manage the interviewing time`s properly too. Service orientation is also an important aspect of any marketing professional. I will display the point of service orientation via actively seeking ways and strategies of helping others and the University. Skills of system analysis are also worth noting. This mainly involves determination of the systems should work, and the manner in which changes in various conditions of operations, as well as the environment, may influence the expected outcomes. The interviewing team will also want to assess my skills of financial resources management. I will be required to demonstrate that I can determine the money is supposed to be spent to allow smooth running of various activities, and accounting for all the costs met (Amos, 2009, p. 82).
The University of Bolton has vision and mission statements. It will be significant that I read the statements and internalize them. I will also be required to read the history of the University, and pay keen attention to its achievements and anticipated goals. Information on the vision and mission statements and goals of the University will give me a concrete background of the University and what it aims to achieve. This information will help me in aligning my motivation and enthusiasm towards the realization of the University`s goals. All these is guided by the fact that marketing assistants are among core University assets regarding the enhancement of the University`s service promotion in realization of the set goals (Andrews, 2012, p. 120).
I seek to apply to join the University of Bolton’s as a staff in the capacity of a marketing assistant in the University of Campus Division. I speak English effectively since it is my native language. I can write concisely on business issues and listen attentively and keenly to the duties and task being assign to handle. As a market assistant, I can express ideas well that can help to reach our customer globally. In addition, am good at facilitating and providing appropriate feedback especially when it comes to group discussion. I can also negotiate with our customer on the services that we offer. Am good at persuading and perceiving nonverbal messages to the customers. I am also specializing at gathering information about our market trend hence I forward it to the manager for further analysis and clarification. I can also describe the feelings of our customer depending on the services we offer. As a professional, I can interview the students who seek to join our institution and also edit their resume (Amos, 2009, p. 80).
When it comes to research and planning, I have the capability to forecast and predict the future events including our market trends. Am good at creating new ideas and identify problems that may occur as we plan our market strategy. In case there is an issue in our institution pertaining marketing, am good at seeking alternatives that will help to implement our strategy to come to pass. Gathering information is one of the critical factors in implementing marketing strategy in any institution. I will, therefore, gather much information even by using social media so that to help us to meet our objectives and set our goals and priority right. I can also solve problems on the basis of the information that we have gathered. Marketing our institution comes up with many challenges including how student can access our resources globally. Here, we will create an online portal that will enable very student worldwide to access our services, therefore, solving one of the problems that our students face.
For every institution to be successful, they have to set goals and objective that will enable them to work it. In this institution, setting goals will be my top priority. Each and every financial year we will be setting goals that we can work to it thus will help to improve the general welfare of the institution. I am also good at extracting relevant information that is required so that we can implement our market strategy. Relevant information precisely that comes from students will be of much help to this institution. Working towards information gathered will help this institution not only to become competitive but also leading in the world. Defining the needs of the students is very essential in any institution. After identifying the resources and gathering all the necessary information, I will be in a good position to define the needs of the students. After defining the student’s needs, am able to analyze the factor that diminishes our market and improve on them effectively and efficiently. Lastly, for my research and planning to be successfully, I will develop evaluation strategies that will help us to evaluate our market trends, therefore, creating efficiency during marketing (Amos, 2009, p. 80).
In terms of human relation and interpersonal skills, I will develop a rapport and express empathy for the students and staff. I will also listen to the student's demand and provide support whenever necessary. For us to market our product and services, we need to motivate each others to work as a team so that we can achieve our main objectives. Sharing credit with my fellow employees and counseling each other will also play a significant role in our field of marketing. Apart from cooperating, I can also represent and delegate others with respect thus enabling me to develop a good relationship with others. Am also good at perceiving feelings and asserting situations therefore I can analyze different market situations. My leadership, management, and organization skills help me to initiate and handle details. It also helps me to coordinate task and manage different groups. Am very responsible when given task to perform and delegate it effectively and efficiently. I can also teach, coach and counsel students especially those who seek internship in the field of marketing. Promoting change in our market structure is always my top priority so that to make our institution remain competitive in the world. In addition to this, I can also sell ideas or products and make a critical decision that deals with issues of marketing. Lastly, I can manage any conflict that comes as a result of marketing (Andrews, 2012, p. 120).
When it comes to working survival, I can implement decisions and enforce policies that will help us to achieve our objective. Am also punctual with my work, and I can manage my time appropriately when given task to perform. When given the opportunity to work as a marketing assistant, I will concentrate to meet my goals and accept any responsibility or task assigned to perform. However, am able to set and meet deadlines thus enabling me to deliver quality work. In addition, I can juggle and prioritize dozens of simultaneously responsibilities. The knowledge of financial markets and instruments, especially bonds, stocks, options, and the future that I have will help me to perform my duties of marketing in effective and efficient way (Andrews, 2012, p. 120).
