Simply put, a promotional mix is an idea of using different forms of communication to pass out information about certain products or services. The basis of the promotional mix is to make known the various products that a company may be dealing with. This includes the services that the company offers. There are certain components that make up the promotional mix.Advertisement: this is a key component of the promotional mix. There are different forms through which advertisements can be done. In the modern dispensation, there are different platforms through which advertisement can be done.

The mass media is one such platform through which advertisements can be done. Television and radio have become critically important through which advertisements are done. Consequently, there are other platforms like social networking sites. Millions can be reached through social media. Social media has been touted as one of the best platforms to advertise. A cross-section of people throughout the world can be reached when advertisements are put on social media (Kurtz, 2011 p. 500).Personal selling: this is where an individual takes personal initiative to persuade a prospective customer to buy a certain product or opt for some particular service.

To do personal selling, one has to be smart and be able to convince the prospect about the viability of a given product or service. Selling the product depends on how well one is able to convince a customer.Sales promotion: some people have often confused about sales promotion to be advertising. Though the features are almost the same, the components are quite different. Under sales promotion, various means and ways are improvised in order to sell a product. Organizing roadshows, offering free items and running programs on different programs are some of the tactics used in sales promotion.

While it is likely that a lot more can be used in sales promotion.
