Company Analysis More than often, it is essential for companies to carry out SWOT analysis, as a way of ascertaining its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the market. This is because; opportunities and threats are measured, as external factors while strengths and weaknesses are considered, as internal factors. As an audit tool, it assists a company to come up with a sustainable niche within the organization and its environment. More so, it focuses on building its strengths and opportunities, as it avoids the threat it faces and improves on its weaknesses.

SWOT analysis of APDM’s pillbox logger, ensures that management can effectively plan while focusing on key issues that strengthen the company’s growth. For the pillbox logger design, to become more appealing to its users, it must have requirements that existing designs lack. This attributes to the strengths that are available to the APDM Company’s product, for it to venture into the market successfully. Its size and shape remains significant because it determines whether it would fit into the users’ pockets (Zia 78).

Therefore, the pillbox logger is more convenient, because users could carry it around while undertaking their daily activities. In addition, the ability to have a vibrator reminder and an audio alarm, allows users to choose a suitable method (Zia 30). More so, the ability of the pillbox logger to keep an easy record of pill intake is essential. This is because, the other designs are not extremely accurate because they require the opening of the pillbox compartment. Whereas the others require wireless connection, the new design has easy data transmission because it can be linked directly to the computer through USB device.

More so, the pill logger uses long lasting battery, as compared to other devices. Even though, the pillbox logger proved to be suitable, as compared to other devices it had several weaknesses. The APDM Company has not yet marketed the pillbox logger even though it seems to have a suitable device for monitoring medication, as compared to other designs (Zia 27). It also has a small storage capacity that can only store information for a small duration of time. In most cases, the duration ranges from seven days to a few weeks.

Nonetheless, the APDM has several opportunities that allow it to venture further into the market. The company’s experience with motion sensors gives it an advantage over the other companies (Zia 4). This is because; it can develop further the current design of the pillbox logger by adding more sensors to enhance the effectiveness. In addition, the collaboration of the company with faculty, clinicians, and scientists who deal with PD subjects ensures that the company produces designs that suit the users (Zia 24).

Even though, the design has opportunities of expanding in the market, there are several threats it faces in the market. One of the biggest threats it faces is the intense competition in the target market it aspires to enter because other designs have already established themselves (Zia 23). In addition, the demand for the current design of the pillbox logger is not easily determinable because only Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients use the ranges of the designs. Given that, the results of SWOT analysis APDM Company has a greater potential in the market.

With many strengths as compared to the other designs, the current pillbox logger designs prove to be the most suitable. Nonetheless, the company should focus on reducing its weakness and come up with strategies to face the threats efficaciously.
