It also needs to take into account the changes that take place in the firm’s economic, political, social and technological environment. This project attempts to bring out the manner in which the concept of marketing gets affected due to these reasons.

Today the world has opened up to a new arena of marketing technologies, twists, and techniques. What has gained the most significance today is online marketing. The online exuberance of marketing has somehow eroded the true meaning of marketing. Many have observed the marketing assets of tactics or ‘gimmicks’. Others have treated the words ‘marketing’, ‘sales’ and ‘advertising’ as synonymous terms. Below are some of the authentic definitions of marketing. The American Marketing Association has defined marketing as “the process of planning and executing the conceptions, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organization objectives” (Synergetic Resources, 2004, p.1 ). The American Heritage Dictionary has defined marketing as those commercial functions that are involved in the transfer of goods from the producers to the customers. The MSN Encarta has provided an alternative definition of marketing. It says marketing is the business activity that presents products and services to potential customers in such a manner that raises their eagerness to buy. Accordingly “marketing includes such matters as the pricing and packaging of the product and the creation of demand by advertising and sales campaigns” (Synergetic Resources, 2004, p.1).

It is to be noted that there might be a number of definitions for marketing, but the basic foundations of marketing shall never change or become obsolete. The basis of marketing lies in the selling of products, services, and ideas to customers at certain prices by means of distribution, promotion, and advertising. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
