Working For an International Firm Introduction In the present globalized world where workers move from one part of the world to another freely relative to many centuries ago, the idea of working for an international firm is an interesting adventure. For individuals with the desire to explore new areas of the world as well as those who enjoy challenges, working for international firms such as BMW is an inevitable quest. There are numerous benefits that accrue to an individual who works for an international firm compared with one who works for a domestic firm.

However, working for an international firm is not usually a smooth ride. It often comes with some challenges. This paper explores the benefits of working for an international firm as well as the disadvantages. The Advantages of Working for an International Firm First, working for an international company like BMW gives a person the chance of experiencing a new country with different culture. There is a possibility of an employee being posted to a foreign country, which is impossible with local companies.

Working in a new country gives an employee the opportunity to explore places he or she may not have travelled to and experience new cultural practices across the world while getting paid. As such, working for an international firm is an adventure worth exploring. Second, working with foreign people at BMW enables one to get new business perspectives. Working in an international firm gives one an opportunity to develop a global view on business operations. Different countries have different approaches to doing business.

As such, a person who works for an international firm is better placed to learn more about international business compared with someone who works for a local firm. Third, international firms like BMW usually offer their employees more competitive salaries compared to domestic firms. By accepting foreign appointment, one is likely to receive a potential increase in his or her income. This makes working for an international organization more of a fun and rewarding more than working for domestic firms.

Fourth, BMW has a diverse workforce, which gives one the chance to experience the benefits of diversity in the workplace. The company is likely to give one a crucial opportunity of working with individuals of diverse backgrounds. One is in a position to learn different ways of solving a particular problem because different communities have different problem-solving approaches. Disadvantages of Working for an International Firm While working for international companies such as BMW seems lucrative, there are some challenges for individuals who work for these organizations.

First, cultural differences are likely to result into conflicts among employees. While international firms emphasize on organizational cultures that are all inclusive, differences in cultural backgrounds among employees may cause conflicts among them, which is a headache for human resource managers. Therefore, for one who works as a human resource manager of an international company, creating and maintaining a culture that unifies individuals of different cultural backgrounds can be daunting.

Also, communication barrier may also make life unbearable for an individual who works for an international company in a foreign country. Further, most international firms tend to prefer individuals from their home countries for senior positions and this leaves minimal chances for professional growth. Conclusion Working for an international firm is a lucrative opportunity many people always yearn. There are numerous advantages that accrue to an individual who works for multinational organizations.

One gets the opportunity to visit new places, experience new cultures and obtain new business perspective among others. However, working for international firms comes with challenges such as language barrier, cultural conflicts and diminished opportunity for professional growth.
