? Pit Bull Pride of Delaware (Strategic plan) Pit Bull Pride of Delaware (Strategic plan) Introduction The Pit Bull Pride of Delaware is a shelter providing organization for pit bull dog breeds through offering love to these breeds. In essence, the organization rolled out in 1st April 2012 as a respondent to the neglect that pit bulls were experiencing at that time. The founders of the organization felt the need of offering support to pit bulls as compared to other dog breeds that had families to take care of them. The core mission of the organization is to impact the lives of as many pit bulls as the organization possibly can through adoption, educating the public about pit bulls and providing foster care options. Further, the organization allows volunteers render their services in line with promoting positivity for pit bulls. Remarkably, the organization draws no profits from their operations hence explaining the reason as to why the organization relies on foster shelters to offer this service. In this regard, this essay will give a detailed strategic plan report on how Pit Bull pride of Delaware would become a better performing institution from the level that is in currently. Additionally, the planning process will include a marketing strategy to produce a customer centered strategic plan. Company operations Pit Bull Pride receives a substantial number of pit bulls through surrender by the owners and the other fraction from shelters with high-kill probability. As per their database, the organization rescued at least a hundred and ten dogs from within Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and also Maryland in the year 2013. The highest percentage of the rescued pit bulls came from high kill holding shelters hence assuring the company of the continued need to stay in operation. After rescuing, pit bulls receive temporary shelter at foster homes until a time when they would get permanent homes that would give love and care as intended. Therefore, this organization draws success from the relenting partnership that they have with foster shelters as they help them save more pit bulls. On the other hand, the organization also facilitates adoption of rescued pit bulls, but they subject possible candidates to thorough screening before qualifying to adopt the animals. The rigorous process includes a face to face interview, home inspection, personal veterinary reference, and lastly a written consent commitment to caring for a dog. However, the organization also performs a temperament check on the pit bulls before their enrollment into the core program. Further, the dogs also go through screening to ascertain their health status before adoption into an official member of their forever family. The medical procedures include up to date vaccinations, testing for heartworms, and dosage on fleas or ticks. The dosage acts as a preventive measure for these pest infestations to assure them of healthy lives during their stay at the shelter. Vision for the organization As earlier mentioned, Pit Bull pride Delaware principally relies on the services of foster shelters to provide animal holding facilities until they can give shelter to the rescued pit bulls. For them, this serves as a restriction to growth and stability as it restricts the number of pit bulls that the organization might save if they had their own shelters. In this regard, Pit Bull pride intends to create their own shelter possibly in 2014 as a way of increasing work output and impact. According to Pit Bull Pride founder, Lauren Verfaillie, the organization underwent successful official incorporation in April of 2012. After incorporation, the organization applied for the 501 (c) 3 tax exemption application to the IRS it sought recognition as a nonprofit entity (Herman & Associates, 2011). This will in turn facilitate the organization to make strides into being a large supporter of pit bulls. The labor force of Pit Bull Pride According to Lauren, the organization squarely depends on volunteers to help in the running of the operations within their jurisdiction. In addition, they rely on financial support from well wishers that share in the course aligned to the organization. The staff work in their designated departments as per their areas of interest that range from adoption related issues to photography among a list of many others. Contrary to common stereotypes that pit bulls are aggressive creatures, the staff volunteering for the organization do their work out of their passion to ensure the safe being of pit bulls within Florida. Most of the staff working in the organization work on a part time basis as the organization does not generate enough to sustain them. Despite the financial challenges experienced by the staff towards achieving their worthy cause, the volunteer soldier on as the fulfillment they get when a pit bull joins a forever family that will take of them gives them the ultimate satisfaction. Challenges facing Pit Bull Pride Ironically, the organization experiences quite a number of hurdles in executing duties related to protecting pit bulls. In essence, the challenges vary from staffing to working financial constraints. However, these setbacks have not challenged the organization to the extent of cutting, but have instead facilitated the application of various adaptation strategies that have enabled them to stay afloat. For one, the principal challenge faced by Pit Bull Pride is dog food that would feed the enormous number of pit bulls that they tend to rescue from high-kill shelters. The dog food in their possession tends to supply a handful of those living in the foster shelters until they get adopted. Secondly, they tend to lack dog crates that would hold the dogs as a way of restricting movement. The ones that they have holding capacities of at least two, which is neither healthy nor hygienic. Further, the organizations also experience strengths in terms of dog handling material like collars and leashes that they use to restrict their movement. The ones that they already have may not be adequate for the whole pack hence inhibiting them from saving more pit bulls. On the other hand, they also have a limited supply of blankets, toys, towels, and feeding bowls that helps in maintaining hygiene standards within the shelter. In essence, most of these hurdles occur as a result of the organization being a non profit generator hence making procurement a critical hurdle (Stryker, 2012). Additionally, the delay in procurement also results from delayed disbursement of donations facilitated by well wishers as many tend to forget to redeem their donation pledges. Further, the organization lacks adequate staff that can work professionally as they lack the funds to pay their staff. They cannot afford the full time services of professionals that may include their own veterinarian to monitor the healths of the dogs, most critical of all is that they do not own a foster shelter that they would use as a housing facility for rescued pit bulls. This becomes strenuous especially if they do not find accommodation for a rescued dog due to the shelter being full. Subsequently, this factor creates a dilemma for the organization are they grapple with the aspect of not saving the animals. Strategic plan for Pit Bull Pride Ideally, the management of the organization has reverted to incorporating avenues that may assist in continuing the work that they are doing. Essentially, it becomes disheartening when an organization closes shop as a result of poor planning towards the future. The Pit Bull organization is one of those organizations that refuses to allow circumstances hinder their operation that are mainly financial. Other than waiting for support from donors, they started the online store program that offered a range of products that could help in creating revenue for the organization. In essence, they developed merchandise that carried their mission statements and their belief. The merchandise includes shirts that have gender design affiliation meaning that the products favor each gender. The proceeds from the sale contribute towards the building of their own foster shelter that will be to their own convenience. Additionally, the organization also organizes brunch for bullies annual contests for dog owners and their dogs as a way of making their foster shelter development kitty active. Further, the proceeds from the brunch buffets also help in facilitating for food and medical care for pit bulls living in foster shelters. Additionally the price range for the brunch for bullies tickets is at a remarkably affordable rate where buyers anticipate having fun and food while contributing towards the shelter fund. The organization assures the public the entire proceeds generated from the brunch for bullies event go directly to their worthy and is not for any other utility hence creating confidence from the public. Another strategy adopted by PBP involves lobbying of well wishers to vote to influence funding from the Animal Rescue site to further their ambitions. In essence, an animal rescue site offers funding to the most voted animal shelter rescue centers of up to a hundred thousand dollars. This is an annual program that seeks to further the ambitions of eligible rescue organizations of helping more and more pets acquire shelter and receive forever families. In this regard, the organization has seen it fit to sensitize the readership of their bi-monthly reports the significance of their votes on the Animal Rescue site. For them, a win would facilitate the speed at which they can build their own rescue shelter within a short period than they had initially anticipated. On the other hand, the PBP also has intentions of increasing volunteer numbers within the organization through the telling-a-friend-to-tell-another-friend campaign. This is a reissue of a projected expansion growth rate that the organization would experience once it has a shelter in place. They have also applied a strategic approach towards searching for additional shelter homes as a temporary solution to their pit bull handling problem before their adoption. This is due to an upsurge in the reported number of abandonment cases for pit bulls within the Delaware area by fans and followers of the organization. Moreover, the organization has sent out appeals to families that feel that they can provide forever homes for the increased number of needful bullies as a way of increasing their impact in a rewarding way. In the future, they hope to organize more charity events that would help them grow towards exemplary heights. With these strategic approaches, Pit Bull Pride would be able to impact the lives of more pit bulls by assuring them of loving forever families and care. Conclusion Arguably, the future of Pit Bull Pride organization in Delaware appears to be of significance towards the realization of the animal rescue course. In essence, it has managed to work against the odds that they have faced from the start of their operations. In this regard, the organizational strategies put in place seek to source additional funding rather than solely depends on donor funding (Bryson, Anderson & Alston, 2011). These applicable implementation strategies include annual brunch for bullies festival and also the sale of clothing merchandise in the online store (Blackmon, 2008). Moreover, their intent to establish their own rescue shelter presents itself as a way of searching for further funding through the Animal rescue funding program. The achievement of this would be through constant lobbying for votes from volunteers, and well wishers since the voting have a deadline. In turn, the organization will be able to recruit more pit bulls into their program by offering better care options for them. Additionally, the recruitment of more volunteers as a strategy would be vital in ensuring that the organization has extra pairs of safe hands hands that will work towards the safe rescue and adoption of pit bulls. In this regard, Pit Bull Pride of Delaware becomes a strategic implementor of impactful plans that would lead to their desired pit bull rescue success. Reference Blackmon. Y. V. (2008).
