Part 1 Personal Goals The things I want most in the rest of my life are: The most important achievement that I want in my life is to use my professional skills and experiences that I will gain in my career to create jobs opportunities for my community as well as my country in order to reduce the unemployment rate. I will like to achieve this through cooperating with people from different fields in order to foster my knowledge scope in different career fields and thus be able to indentify useful market gaps that can create job opportunities. The other important personal goal that I want to achieve in my life is to be self-employed after gaining experience through working with organizations that fosters my career scope. In order to achieve this goal, I will incorporate strategic approaches with both short-term and long-term targets of financial breakthrough before the age of 40. I will also like to continuously contribute to my community in bid to improve the living standards of all people in my community. I will also like to ensure that the effects of national disasters that have occasionally affected my neighbourhood are mitigated by instituting effective predictive mechanisms of detecting a natural calamity like hurricane Katrina (Ellis 2003). My main immediate goals are: i. To get employment in IT/Business area in order to foster my career through acquiring experience from a small relevant firm. ii. To get financial stability in order to be able to pay for other certifications in areas of business and IT. iii. To learn better ways of self-fulfilling through building my career. My main long-term goals are: i. To achieve an MBA Master’s degree with a major in strategic management. ii. To work in a management level in a large organization as a CEO. iii. To establish a firm and employee graduates as a way of creating a job (Orpen1994). iv. To retire early and concentrate on my firm’s business. In five to 10 years time I expect to be… i. I expect to have exercised a management position in a larger firm. ii. To have obtained different certification and master’s degree specifically aligned to business and IT. Organising and planning skills Example Relevance to your career Managing my reading and revising time This is very essential in learning new ways of handling the demands of my career. I also acquire more details about my career through allocating more time on reading. I therefore find it much easier to manage my reading time. Managing my leisure time I find it relatively hard to manage my leisure time because of the priority that I give to leisure time. Allocating time to leisure activities has thus challenged me and I am working on ways to improve my perception towards leisure activities by spending more time and doing more activities. My leisure time is important to my career because it eases my work related stress. Managing my project activities This is one of the challenging yet the most essential aspect of my career development. I always ensure that I set deadlines of different activities and starting from the most urgent to the least agent. I also ensure to work on them as early as possible. Interpersonal skills Example Skills or approaches you used Making contact with new people I initiate talking with new people through facial expression and a smile to show interest and also motivate the new person to proceed talking. I introduce myself and give the new persons time to introduce their self by listening carefully. Sharing and being open I believe in idea sharing, I have practised sharing and being open throughout my studies and other social environment. Operating under stress I have exercised working under pressure severally in college as well as in workplace and thus an important aspect in enhancing my career. Resolving conflicts I have used a win-win situation when handling conflicts; I however need more exposure in workplace in order to foster this interpersonal skill. Accepting correction and direction I have learnt through my schooling and working years to accept corrections and learn new directions from my seniors. It is very relevant to my career as it will help me while solving organizational problems as well as establishing my firm as a long-term personal goal (Rothwell 2005). Flair in creating networks- I create wide multidisciplinary networks even across borders with different people who play an important role in developing better understanding of my career as well as other life essential issues. Communication skills Example Performance Listening to others- I am a good listener and thus one of my major strong point in the development of my communications skills. Good Fair Needs improvement Making presentations- I enjoy making formal presentations though I need to work on better ways of note taking, capturing audience and being precise.
