Name: Course: Tutor: Date: The Nasr Al Hosni Gas company history This rich and vast gas fields located around 210 km for Abu Dhabi were discovered in the 20th century. It was around the time of the two world wars. In the time around 1930s, the diseased sheikh Shakhbut bin sultan al Nahyan the current leader then of Abu Dhadi started a survey to discover and exploit the geological natural resource s in the United Arad Emirates formerly known as Trucial State. Using the revenue from the exploration, the sultan built a new fort on Abu Dhabi Island. In 1966, the diseased came into power and the family that was ruling then shifted from Nasr Al Hosni palace and made it an administrative centre till 1990. It remains to date an important historical monument in this gulf region. This is where we borrowed the name Al Hosni gas, which is aimed to be a new landmark in the region. When the site did began work The natural gas deposit was discovered in the 60s, it is a sour type of gas and the technology at that time was not able to mine the gas as it contains a lot of hydrogen sulphide that is highly corrosive and would destroy the instruments. The site was also remote and getting temperature of over 55 degrees centigrade was nearly impossible. It is only recently when technology to harness the gas has been developed making it possible to even process it. The Abu Dhabi Gas Company Limited came in and formed a mergence on a scale of 60-40 percent with the oxydental petroleum (oxy) exploit the resource. All these agreement were made under the management of Saif Ahmed Al Ghafli who was also the chief executive officer of the company then, that is the Abu Dhabi Gas Company Vision and mission of al Hosni gas Vision statement: “To be a world class company in the development of sour gas resources and distinguished partner of choice.” Mission statement: “To successfully develop, construct, operate and maintain the shah gas fields utilizing the highest engineering standards and adopting premier business practices and technologies to enhance the long term values to our stakeholders.” This is to be achieved through: Creation and proper implementation of effective managing systems to ensure proper command and control of the company. This ensures that the company is goal oriented as the leadership and management heads ensure that work is properly done. They also remind the employees of the core values of the company. This make the stuff goal oriented. The development of skill and competence of the employees and retain them. This makes the company have extremely competent workers who are irreplaceable and efficient. Promotes the company as it is in the hands of experts at the job. They have programs that train employees to ensure that they are competent at their work and duties in the company. Safe guarding safety and health of the workers not forgetting the environment. This builds a reputation for the company and encourages investors to take interest in the company. The work force is also good at doing their job as they are safe and comfortable. The workers are provided with safety gear and the facilities are well designed to prevent the leakage of the sour gas as it is extremely toxic and corrosive. Contributing to the surrounding community’s development. This make the community around appreciate the companies work and some may work for the company as there is mutual trust. They also contribute positively to the company’s growth. All this is possible and that’s why we came up with a list of our core values; Respect; we are respectful of others, create a transparent and trustworthy environment that treasures diversity and recognizes individuals efforts and develop the competency levels of the staff. The leaders treat the juniors with respect and encourage them to develop and grow more. Teamwork; we have an environment encourages grouping together of individual effort and skill towards the company’s mission, company’s vision and core values to develop a great environment for moving forward. Individual skill is put out to help each other achieve the set goals and standards. And every worker should know their responsibility in the company growth. Just like ants building an ant hill, we know that team work can make mountains out of grains of sand. Continual improvement; we have set some very high but achieve standards that we hope on seeing meet and even surpass them. We are positively minded and accept positive change and look for improvement all round. We do not want to relax our muscles after being able to lift a car but we want to push harder beyond our limits and maybe we may discover something never seen before. Innovation; we face challenges as it is part of life so we encourage creation of new ideas and solutions that will allow us to be a brand name in the sour gas industry and hydrogen sulphide safety. Being the biggest company of its kind we want to set trends in our line of production or related activities that other coming industries will follow. Integrity; we uphold to our values and code of conduct in the way we do our business, and conduct ourselves. This ensure s that our shareholder and the business community trust our enough to do business with our. Also ensures that it roots out corruption that may ruin the business. Our code of ethics What is a code of ethics; it is a set a standards that every worker in the company should follow as a minimum gauge of behaviour. It covers; all guidelines one should follow when doing any business dealings under the name of the company. It is also designed specifically for the company’s growth and advancement in the market. These codes of conduct must be followed by all worker s under the company name not excluding the contractors. Managerial employees or employers must also abide by the code of ethics leading by example to the rest of the workers. They are also expected to remind the employees under them aware that they should comply with the code. They are to report any code violations to appropriate authorities as the code states. And they themselves have to abide by the rules if they are going to lead the company into profitability in the market. How to know if you are following the code As an employee you should ask yourself the following questions Is what am about to do legal, socially and ethically acceptable? Is the action am doing abiding by the code of ethics? Would the company be embarrassed if this action would come to light and the public knows about it or even if the company heads knew about it? If an employee is uncertain whether their act is against the code of ethics they should avoid it first and consult the following sources The supervisor The division heads Help lines Or email All employees joining the company have to be given a copy of the code of conduct and have a declaration form that they sign to ensure that they have understood the code of ethics and will comply by the failure to which they will be accountable. Purpose of the code of ethics Its purpose includes; Protect the company’s interests by discouraging deals that may harm it and or spoil the company’s name by going against company policies. This prevent the workers from misusing the company name and resources or getting involved in bad misgivings that may taint the company reputation. Safe guard assets that belong to the company. Prevents resources misuse by the staff and also ensures that at a given moment all the company resources are geared toward it aims, goals and set targets to be meet. Such policies that are set to prevent misuse of company resources are policies like you are not suppose to use company equipment for our own gain. Set principles that are high standard that everyone must go by. This ensures that you produce quality products and services into the market where they can compete equally to the rest. Also allows the company name to have a classy reputation that tends to attract investors like moths to a lamp. This is very good for a business and it advantageous. Make the potential businesses that want to cooperate with them be an aware that the company has minimum standards that they must abide to. These ensure that not just anyone that not just anyone that is qualified is awarded a contract by the company and they may not be of good ethical conduct. Company responsibility towards employees The company has to be equal in setting standards to everyone and protect the employee’s rights and privileges. Thereby the company commitment is to; Ensure that the employees have safe and healthy environment to work in as per the internationally set standards for the industry: This allows the company to be recognized as a safe industry because no one want o buy products from a company that doesn’t care for its works and they lose their lives. This also has a positive effect in attracting investors to the company. Fair and equal treatment of the employees: These make the environment conducive to the workers as they are sure that they will be given equal treatment as everyone else. Their ideas will be considered and listened to by their superiors and that when they have an issue to handled the will be heard. The leaders also are to be followed up if they go against the code of ethics just like everybody else. Ensure that their employees undergo extensive training that is necessary to them and also help them develop their talents and skills. This ensures that the company has competent workers who are trained to do their job well. This is beneficial to the company in that their products are of quality as the workers knew what they were doing and also prevents the breaking of the code of ethics as the staffs are knowledgeable in those matters. Start and encourage communication that is constructive and open within the company by creating trust and a non-judgemental environment. This is very good for a business as a member of the staff may have an innovative idea that will be the next big thing and they will have appropriate channels to air them. They are also not afraid of suggesting something that may have been over looked by the superiors. Fair investigation of all employees that have gone against the code of ethics and ensure that action is taken against the person in accordance with the company policy and company laws. No special treatment but fairness to all. This ensures that the workers have faith in the management team and that they will not be discriminated as they do not wield any power. Employee’s responsibility towards the company (code of ethics page 14) The company employees are required to ensure that they uphold the company’s interests. This may be done by; The employees should have the highest possible standards and be reliable in their action in the company and outside of work. Truthfulness is also of value that they should uphold by. These ensure that the company has high esteem as her human resources are of high standard and value. They produce quality products and services and are to be trusted. This also makes the work environment better as everyone has standards and will not fall for anything. Be devoted to the company’s interest and always work hard even when not under supervision. This ensures that work goes on even when the managerial or supervising team s not around. The company goals are in their hearts. This also helps make the workers self driven and who could ask for more from their workers. The human resource have critical role to play in the realization of the companies goals and objectives. Be updated on what is new through all possible media. Like for example through information technology and be informed on latest developments and advancements in the world that is ever changing. Keeps the company ahead and informed. Be accountable and responsible of the company’s assets that they use and be trustworthy with them. This ensures that the company’s investment in the resources is not exploited for one’s own benefit but for the good of the company. Accountability is in terms of assets care or any other means that serve to keep the company security in good conditions. Be respectful to others honour their right s and needs even in the uniqueness of their social and economic placement in society. Also respect personal attributes. It ensures that everyone’s talent is exploited and used properly for the business. Putting into account that every one’s trait is different from the rest even though they are doing the same kind of work. Not agreeing to any dealings that may go against the company’s code of ethics or the company’s interest. And also avoid using the company for personal gains. This ensures that there is no wastage of company funds or resources allocated to a particular task. Such wastage could lead to lower quality of the products or services lowering their competitive ability in the market. Avoiding taking advantage of one ones position in the company or any assets for personal gains or to the benefit of a fitting party. It is the duty of the employees to reports such cases. This ensures equality in the business and everyone is treated equally by the law. Have and retain the highest code of ethics and know of the company rule and policies. This makes sure that the company goes by the set laws and ethics that are to be followed by the industry and its employees. Promotes the industries reputation in the market and raises its social place in the market. Use company resources to the maximum gain of the company. It makes sure that all the companies’ resources are geared toward the common set goals and that everyone is moving in that direction. Make the company run smoothly and efficiently. Be compliant with the laws of the land and other policies like the company policies and directives. This ensures that the job is legal and that it supports the government. Company responsibilities towards the community; Lead the community in environmental protection and preserve natural resources by minimising pollution and health awareness. The various kinds of pollutions include the air, water and pollution. The net impacts of this time of pollution are fatal is not adequately monitored by the company management. The business shall aim not only at its own interest but also community interest. They should provide the surrounding community with health, educational and cultural preservation support. One of the mechanism through which this can be achieved is by giving back to the community through sponsoring of certain activities or other available means. Responsibility to parties having business relationships with the company Should be honest, fair and compliant with the tender awarding and contractor policies and legal practices. No special treatment or consideration should be given through under the book transactions. It is the duty of the company to support the local based companies by awarding them some tenders and encouraging them. Should encourage completion based on quality and no not just price so that the local businesses can develop. Responsibility toward shareholders Ensure that shareholders are satisfied by creating long term business plans that shall benefit both the company and share holders and also build trust in the company. This is made possible if the employees and the company together plan and goes through with the activities. The company should also build and maintain trust of the shareholders by practicing honesty, fairness and integrity. Importance of strategy and vision Quality products production; the company sets high standards of ethical conduct that leaves no room for substandard work and services. This betters the company name and reputation in the business market giving them competitive advantage over the rest of the competetitors. The quality produced can be accessed against international and national standards to determine the levels and quality of productions. Accreditation of the production techniques also play key role in ensuring client trust in the produces. Timely and accurate results; strategy does not allow time to be wasted on useless activities that do not contribute to the companies aim and targets. This leaves more time to achieve the set goals and aims producing well refined results in form of products or services. Proper planning; through strategising, a proper and detailed plot on how to achieve the company core values is made and everything put into place allowing steady production. Proper leadership; they say that the head determines were the body will land, so when there is strategy, planning and vision the heads will have a bearing on to where they will lead the company better leading to proper leadership thus better results. Builds trust; the company with strategy and planning will produce timely and quality products or services thus the consumers will have gained trust that they can produce good results. Also since they follow a code of ethics, the employees and leaders will be trustworthy respectable and reliable so they reflect the values of the company. Satisfies the share holders; it is one of their code of ethics, and so the employees are geared towards meeting this goal and that means that the shareholders will most certainly always be satisfied with the company results. This builds mutual trust. Develops the surrounding community; it is in the companies code of ethics above and this means that the company already has allocated time and resources to help develop the community educationally, heath wise and even environmentally by supporting preservation campaigns. For example the company has started a camping to clean the environment around it that has a town of close to 35000 people. Preserves the environment; the company has set up programs and allocated resources and funds towards cleaning the environment. They also have a code of not polluting the environment. This in its own way has preserved nature by not destroying it. The environment is major concern for many companies and government have make policies to ensure that companies adhere to the good manufacturing practices. Encourages the local investors; the company’s majority shares that is 60% of the shares are owned by the United Arabs Emirates government. This means that the profits are retained by the country. They also have offered contracts of the gas transportation and the setting up of the structures to local investors. Preserve company name and reputation; the company has a code of ethics that serves as a guide line to conduct and how to do business setting the minimum standards that one should adhere to. This prevents scandals that could ruin the company’s name and spoil its reputation leading to lack of trust by the shareholders. Protect the company from misuse of its assets; there is a set code of ethics that states that an employee should use the company assets maximally only towards the company goals and not to ones benefit. This ensures that all company resources are put to good use helping towards the set goals. Better company goal oriented workers; every employee as they join the company they are handed a code of ethics form and declaration form that they sign to ensure that they know what the company standards and goals are. The leaders are to lead the employees by example so that they can follow their lead.
