Name: Course: College: Tutor: Date: Abstract The aim of this review is to demonstrate Personal progress made in developing my study and career skills during this semester. In addition to action plan for the rest of my course and first year after completing my course. All this covered up by a complete learning log. Identification of the Role of transferable skills in my academic studies, Personal life and the world of work. For I top reinvent myself during this semester has not been an easy talk but at the end of the day it was done. It actually necessitated lots of thinking of who Iam, exactly what I want in life Vis a Vis what am good at. (Inge Woudstra, 2011), As soon as I got the answers to these crucial quizzes I got a clear vision of exactly what I wanted to do. By definition a skill is something you are comfortable at doing and it may look like a surprise once one discovers he had some talent stored in him only that he had not been given the opportunity to explore it. This could even be your job. Its crucial to note that the criterion for people to build their skills is not just limited to jobs but in the pattern of life as a whole. Some of the skills I learned in my first semester at the university include patience, multitasking, managing details, learning new skills quickly, Making things happen, taking charge of complex situations, showing flexibility, being organized and Solving problems. I now intend to perfect on these skills for the rest of my four years at the university horn them through lots of practical and hands on experience so that they become better at the end of my study at the university. Unlike skills that are gotten from a job or in a job environment many skills can be transferred to the career I value most and this is the action plan I have after I have cleared my course to ensure that I transfer the good skills I learned at the university in my four years to my profession. The reason I would want to transfer some of these skills to my profession is because they are some of the most demanded in the market by today’s companies. The business environment in today’s market is changing at a rate not witnessed and problem solving, multitasking and networking are some of the most sought after skills by today’s employers. In my first year after completing my course I will also need to reword some of my skills particularly in my resume by reading job adverts to find out expertly what employers want and ensuring my skills explanation resonate with what they are looking for. Since in most interviews most employers ask for evidence of the skills one purports to have. In my first year after completion of my course I will have to do at least a certificate in each of the skills I have that are highly demanded by employers in the market. I will also look for people with accredited qualifications to write me references just in case of anything. 2 Effective Strategies For the development of interpersonal and Management skills Since I have already decided that I want a change in my life ill have to strategies on how to do this so that I may finally achieve my goals. This change won’t come without sacrificing time and in order to do these best ill have to use well all the time that I have. In order to ensure that I achieve all my interpersonal and Practical skills are fine ill have to implement effective strategies for their development which include the following; First I will have to ensure that I discipline myself on how I use my time for time wasted will never be recovered. (Annaeus, 1996)The way I utilize my time well will enable me to succeed in my studies as well as be able to meet other demanding tasks like visiting family and friends. I will do this by scheduling a study timetable in every busy week so as to keep myself up to speed with what we have been taught in class. I will schedule my study time to have lapses of 50 minutes each so that I don’t overdo things this will enable me to rest as well as have a deeper understanding of my course work. I will also ensure that my breaks are utilized on doing something of significance like taking a snack or doing my washing so that am not got off guard whatsoever with any pending issues. To ensure I concentrate on my goals ill first have to discover myself and know exactly who iam and what I want in life once these questions have been answered to my satisfaction ill go ahead and work on what will improve my life.(John,1999) The next important step to meet all my dreams will be to ensure that I grow myself by acting on my skills through implementing my personal progressive plan in skills development. I will have to ensure I create good and healthy relations through having friends who support my dreams and cutting myself from any one who would want to kill my vision. I will also ensure that I have a good relationship with God for spiritual nourishment which would blend well in mentoring my course. I will have to manifest what I want in life through experiencing a good spiritual life it will be automatic that my relations with my fellow humans would be improved and this will go hand in hand in streamlining all my challenges and removing all mountains that may stand on my way. This would create good relations that would strengthen the bearing of my vision. By ensuring that my time is not wasted this would help me control my destiny for ill be able to live a disciplined and principled life ensuring that I have a purpose and not just living for the sake of living. This sense of purpose will inculcate the fire to realize my vision and see to it that no mistakes are made. I will also be in a position to improve on my creative nature through having ideas at my finger tips as a result on having lots of things on my work plate which will enable my mind to be busy and thus think faster and generate workable solutions at any one given time I find myself in a complex situation. After getting clear of my crucial needs and dreams I will be able to factor in the master plan of implementing them through working in a close relationship with people who have gone through it and made it and make them my mentors on my vision. By knowing exactly who I am, my purpose of living and my destiny I will have that sense of purpose and fulfillment for ill know am not an accident just living aimlessly but a person with a destiny. I will have to write down all the known challenges in my life that have been bringing me down whenever I want to succeed. I will ensure I note them down and derive ways of expunging them from my life. One way of ensuring I expunge all deterrents of success from my life is to jot down all my gifts and works that have brought joy to others and ensure that I perfect on them to make them even better. I will also have to ensure that I know my strengths and weaknesses by knowing the virtual aims and feelings of security that sometimes make me feel fulfilled when am not yet there its after leaving this comfort zone through revealing these hidden defenses that I will have the urge to go to where am supposed to be. I will also have to ensure that I know how I have been giving away my sense of responsibility and letting some other people act for me this will enable me assert myself for who I am and what am supposed to do. I will also to underscore the points that give me strengths and improve on them so that they work on improving my personality. This will help me to set out my goals and achieve them without any fear. My own needs and abilities Assesment for the development of management and academic skills To assess my own needs and abilities for the development of management and academic skills I will first do an analysis of any gap in my life that is not filled by a talent or skill that is hidden or dormant. This I will do by identifying the current state of my skills in relation to my target goals and visions I envisage in the near future. If the situation demands that there is a goal I want to achieve but am not working on it now ill have to draw out guidelines on how to channel my skills toward achieving the missing talent. In doing so, I will have to reflect on my personal and non personal constraints that could be mitigating factors toward achieving these skills and work- out how to root them out from my life. I will have to examine the critical actions and not only what am currently doing to achieve my vision so that I ensure that what is supposed to be done is done without any excuses. I will also have to draw a line between my actual vision and my perceived one so that I assert myself to achieving it fully and not just partially. I will have to identify if I have any shortcoming s in my personality that will have to be eliminated through training. If so then there would be no short cut but to ensure the necessary training takes place. I will also have to think out of the box and finds out if there are likely to be challenges in the near future due to technological advances which may not be taking place at the moment but are envisaged to take place thus be a challenge in the future. If some are identified then I will have to take the necessary steps to cushion myself against any adverse effects of this foreseen change. I will also have to find out if there are any opportunities on my way like free training opportunities that would add value to my skills and help implement my vision. If these come my way I will have to capitalize on them. In regard to my strengths ill find out how I can take advantage of them to strengthen my defense rather than react on my weaknesses in order to avert any crisis and turn around my setbacks into setups for my destiny. I will also have to think out of the box and try to think of new directions in my strategies. If there is a different way of achieving my goals apart from the traditional ones that I have I will include them in my plan to ensure that the vision I have gains momentum. I will also have to find out if there are logistical or legal hurdles that ill have to deal with in order to achieve my vision. Things like tax returns and good conduct may be a requirement if I want to go for an elective post in government. I will ensure I deal with them squarely in time so that they don’t become an impediment to my dream. I will then sit down and place my vision steps in order of priority and importance. I will have to determine if all the steps I have listed are workable or aren’t as much as they are real. If they aren’t then ill have to reach out for an easier way out. I will have to identify causes of any hurdles to my dream and how to deal with them. For instance if the training am taking is the right one or is redundant compared to the specific needs of the persons I want to serve. I will have to identify possible solutions to my problems and growth opportunities. (Stout, 1995) Harvard Referencing Harvard referencing is the accepted referencing style in this course; Having been used by library guides at Anglia University for assistance of students it has become a very important referencing tool on the internet today. It can be used by other people so long as they take the common license rule in effect to reference their work. Referencing essentially means that as I write my works at the university ill be required to refer to other authors and in so doing ill have to acknowledge them it s this action that is referred to as referencing. There are two ways in which I can use to refer my work using Harvard referencing technique. These are information prominence. or author prominence. Author prominence ensures that credit is given to the author by use of his sir name. While in information prominence it’s the information that comes before the citation. A Reflection on My Personal Skills development I will have to reflect on my personal skills development because without reflection of where am coming from and where am going to I wont be able to understand my strengths and weaknesses and the big dream I have could remain a mirage. This is because reflection on past, present and future is important for growth and change. Another advantage of taking time to reflect is that this noble task would bring peace, comprehension and a sense of direction in life. I will have to-do this deliberately as well as actively without any partiality in order for it to have any meaning. Even as I reflect on how my skills are going to have any emphatic results I will have to ensure that I write down my objectives so that they stick in my mind rather than knowing them partially. By reflecting on the past I will want to know where I may have gone wrong in my efforts to perfect my skills and would want to expunge the mistakes so that the future doesn’t have the past repeating itself. As l reflects on my personal skills development this would eventually give me total control over not just my present but my past and future as well. In developing my personal skills I will have to develop skills on literacy and communication as well as working and independent education. In addition to that I will have to perfect on my professional skills for instance management of stress, supporting the development of my peers and setting gospels and objectives. I will do this by pointing out my own choices of learning options out of the many that are available that will serve to see me achieve my goal. I will also have to ensure I work hand in hand with my fellow peers to ensure that lots of development skills are identified and mentored to move to the next level. (Sheila, 2010) I will also ensure that I understand at the end of my four year course at the university how to administer and relay my own messages without hurdles. This I will do by identifying the competences that I require to ensure is up to speed with my skills. REFERENCES Annaeus L. Serea (1996) Resource Management Series; Time Management.
