Global business management: Word Count: Introduction Any type of business needs an excellent leader for it to prosper and develop. Through any inspirational leadership a business is most likely to outdo other businesses in the market. A good leader will most likely be able to use any of the leadership models at different points in time for the success and management of any business. John Lewis is a partnership company that is highly profiled in the business industry through its department stores, Waitrose supermarkets among other services. Images (a), (b) and (c) and showing John Lewis Partnership Company Characteristics of Sir Charlie Marley in relation to the transformation leadership model Sir Charlie Mayfield is the chairman who is in charge of the developments and strategic plans for John Lewis and Waitrose partnership businesses. For one to b come a good leader he or she must have the leadership skills and characters that are suppose to make him or her an outstanding leader. Leadership is the aspect of carrying out a vision through the help of other is a group or organizational setup with training and great mentorship influence from the vision bearer. According to, (Burger, Webber, & Klinck, 2007, P. 184), it is basically a process to success in business that is directed or headed by selected people or a person regarded as a leader in a particular setup. Leadership encompasses a positive and successful relation of personnel’s in and outside an organization that is aimed at fulfilling a strategic goal towards growth and production. There are different leadership styles that can be used by managers and directors in running business. In some of the styles well known are the transformational leadership style, the servant leadership style, the charismatic leadership style, the authentic leadership style, the authoritarian leadership style, the democratic leadership style and the laissez-faire leadership style. Sir Charlie Mayfield was a motivator. According to, (Godzyk, 2008, p. 34) transformational leadership is a leadership style that is majorly a combination of several productive components of other leadership theories. It is termed as a productive and successful mode of leadership that works to productivity in an organization. Through such leadership style the workers or followers are motivated and trained to produce quality and progressive work for valuable return of their workman force in the organization. This can come up as an appreciation through rewards, promotions among other factors. Sir Charlie Mayfield the chairman of John Lewis Partnership worked towards the big dream factor that John Spedan Lewis had. Through such initiation of a positive hardworking ideas and a motivating spirit the workers give out satisfying products from the company and thereby initiating a rising profit from time to time. Transformational leadership requires a leader who can be able to figure out problems that were not anticipated and still come up with strategic plans to solve them. Transformational leaders help followers grow and develop into leaders by responding to individual followers needs by empowering them and by aligning the objectives and goals of the individual followers, the leader, the group, and the larger organization." But we need to achieve them if individual businesses and the British economy are to succeed in an increasingly competitive global market.” He is able to influence not only the company to expand but also influence his business competitors and workers to work extra hard for future and higher setup global business goals. He always made his ideas valid by initiating greater and effective changes. A transformational leader thinks outside the box and is able to invite every idea no matter how small it is provided that it makes a small difference. This makes him a proactive mentoring leader. Sir Charlie Mayfield establishes a long term relationship with suppliers who make innovations. Such relationships bring a growing graph of productivity in the market field. Sir Charlie Mayfield once stated that “Long-term relationships with our suppliers lead to innovation and better products” (KPMG Global, 2014, p. 1), states. Consistency in business is a key aspect since it maintains the business running in the market and retains the available customers. In relation to, (McCulloh, 2014, p.1), through such leadership consistency the company has been able to open 42 shops, 10 John Lewis at homes and a shop at Heathrow Terminal 2 among other businesses. Charlie Mayfield took risks and made profits A transformational leader should be able to venture into fields that have potential even when no one else see’s that hidden positive impact in the project. The risk taking factor means that one is ready to make a difference in the community and in the market place. A transformational leader sees through the golden opportunity and sticks at it, being more of an opportunist in the market field. One who is always on the lookout for new and untried arenas of success in business. This stands for key performance indicators (KPI’s). Measures used by John Lewis are outstanding strategies that go in collaboration with the PCSR. The objectives set in the CSR are likely to make clear grounds for the measures of the annual performance records. The JLP uses departmental assessments to create room for changes on either the workers or the strategic plans used to run business from time to time. Through such changes and assessments they are able know which plan can bring profit and which one can bring stagnation in growth. JLP also uses the campaign and competitors study to make market and effective changes in universal products that are shared by their competitors, (Walker, 2012, p. 231), states. Another measure that is used is the budget review that the mangers do. Through which they are able to label their goods in the market at a price that is affordable and outstanding in price compared to similar product from other companies. In relation to, (Walker, 2012, p. 232), the interest rates should be strategically put in the market. John Lewis Partnership (JLP) uses its external field facilitators to survey and come up with remarkable experts reports on how good or bad the products are in the market. The company uses the financial auditing trading performance measure to monitor where the graph is accelerating or not improving at all. This KPI is done through income auditing of particular products separately. Recommended and Improvements A recommendation of managerial framework should be put in place. This can be done through score cards in manufactured product or per departments according to the commonly and mostly needed product in the market. A fluctuation of prices can also be applicable in the market field, however such must be strategically placed where the customers can are not seasonal. The same should not be put in products that seasonally used. Where new projects are to be launched the company should make an investment in them although with caution so as not go encounter massive loses at any point in time. Where products are common in the market field, the JLP Company should try to improve its quality and make at least unique but common products. They can review their employee research programs and keep the managerial role and staff role distinctively in their correct places. The Pyramid of Corporate Social Responsibility This is the extended legal, ethical and economical responsibility that a corporation may be allowed to carry along it normal duties in the business sphere. The pyramid comprises of levels of responsibilities that the managerial level should put into consideration in order to ensure that the business is roundly beneficial to the socio-economical sector of the society. According to, (Anaejionu, 2015, p,1), they are mainly the legal, economical, philanthropically and ethical areas. Through the PCSR system the business is majorly operating at low risks because at all time it is highly liable to observe all ethical facts in relation to dealing with customers, suppliers and other legal personnel’s in business. PCSR is also equally beneficial to any business that may apply such. The business gains an outstanding profile, competence, media coverage among other positive factors. John Lewis persist that through it all the PCSR might as well be a strong foundation anticipating to grow to greater heights of developments even though the signs are not yet visible. John Lewis approach towards Corporate Social responsibility I. John Lewis looks at CSR as a positive scheme in business that can prolong its profile and help in maintain the status core of the company at top at all times. In this the company has come up with levels of responsibilities which highly aim for growth and enlargement of the company. John Lewis approaches the CSR as a strategy scheme towards its commercial success in business. Through it the business will receive recognition for instance through the press where it will be publicized. IV. The other approach that was taken was the separation of the three responsibilities that are now in three clusters of Waitrose, John Lewis and the partnership as a whole. The company has thereby been able to achieve varying report. V. The company is persistent and hoping that it will turn out to their advantage one day although, most of them don’t have a great positive impact.
