Insert Future Engineering managers Introduction The trends witnessed in demographics, increasing digital networking; the economic structural change and globalization are hardly the only challenges facing current pool of engineers. The challenges are spread across the continent affecting lives of companies, institutions and the advancement of society. It is evident that the rate of new technologies in the market superseded the solutions that have been established and implemented. In respect, early identification and definition of the strengths and opportunities including the analysis of the weaknesses amidst the strengths is an approach that will enable engineering manager to stand a better chance to avert looming issues. Amidst all the challenges, engineering the management process is the solution that will offer long lasting, reliable solutions. The current drivers for change are the new technologies, social demands and economic trends, which influence innovation and progress. The engineering fraternity should articulate the state of the company operations and anticipate future solutions. The practices to be undertaken by engineers involve coming up with benchmarking practices, ensure a diverse workforce and a motivated team. In addition, the focus should be to come up with new generation products and services for the market, which are defined by better solutions, cheaper prices and faster time to market. Moreover, attention ought to be web-based tools in relation to the designing of production, managing projects and plant operations. The essence of the existence of engineers is to supply constantly to the needs of the market. They can achieve it by an agile process that is well integrated from training, to research and field operation (Martin). Future focus of engineering management Benchmarking best practices and the stimulus of a company to innovate is an imperative aspect. It is backed by the innovative economy in which the extent of knowledge and plan becomes the defining factor to stand a competitive advantage. To achieve the goals, the management succinctly require coming up with systems for measurement and a set of pre-defined benchmarks. The management tools in innovation have been noted to be the facilitators for planning, defining strategy and making use of communication tools. The desire by managers in coming up with benchmarks for the advancement of solutions is in line with innovative strategies. The environment design should focus on taking risks that come with breakthrough innovation (Huselid). In addition, measuring, the innovation potential of engineering management will enhance the streamlining of solutions for the society. Any company should be able to work with a diversified pool of workforce bearing in mind that companies and institutions work with professionals from the varied field of study. The integration of the diversity of the workforce attracts the synergistic potential a company holds and implements into results. Engineering projects demand professionals across the pool to design, plan, implement, direct organize and stipulate the channels to be followed for to achieve millenium goals. A project attracts stakeholders, business managers, accountants, relational managers and the engineering team. Groups work better than individual and as such engineering management should merge their service into the larger company goals. When all are in accord, the process is faster and cheaper. Engineers should understand the existence of other disciplines. Engineering education is based on designs and offering technical solutions (McNamara). However, the field offers many challenges than anticipated by the designers of the education systems and engineers have to learn more than one skill and to embrace teamwork to accomplish assignments. Enthusiasm is the source of internal energy which when channeled properly ensures that engineers and their team members work for long and effectively. Motivation is the life spring and driver of the energy human beings hold. Engineering management should boost packages, working environment, terms and conditions. Satisfaction of the mind helps one to concentrate in undertaking duties. The modern world is full of social platform that spread the information at the fastest rates ever witnessed. It comes as a positive enhancer when the information passing around is better about company’s objectives (University). Dissatisfied workers might ruin the image of a company and proceed to affect returns. The current society is sensitive to reputation, and the trust should start with employees who are the ambassadors. Engineers and managers of the future should help to develop a new generation of products and services, better, cheaper and faster. Noting that, engineers obtain education that is a technical solution oriented. It is worth recognizing that university education is theoretical in the delivery of knowledge. The engineers are allowed to develop skills in the field, which include sales, technical solutions, research and training. Leading innovators have ridden on management tools and design tools that are developed to capture the current state of the society. It captures economic outlook of the markets. In addition, they offer fast designs, improves reliability and ability to integrate design, and manufacturing reduces the time to market for innovation. It helps to reduce legal issues that may arise from reverse engineering and achieves return on value by reaching the market before the product technology is watered down or succeeded by better solutions. Reduction in manufacture time reduces the cost of production and enhances quality of the products developed. Engineering managers should lead research in the field by coming up with solutions to the current products (Krantz). The world awaits better communication channels, transport systems and manufacturing processes. Moreover, services offered by engineers should focus on quality, timely and cheaper access. Engineering managers should proactively identify and utilize future web-based tools related to product design, project management, plant operations, facilities and knowledge management to streamline company operations. Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM) tools enhance the quality, reliability and enable the integration of design and manufacturing. Web-based tools should be an addition to engineering management. The concept of SCADA systems should be rolled on the web and enable the operation of industries across the globe. Offering real time solutions to operations should be enhanced by development of superior tools. Measurement tools need to utilize sensor technologies that meet international standards. The integration of the computer-based tools and the web-based tools will facilitate the rolling out of solutions affecting the society and institution currently. Lean and in real time solutions, should be anticipated by engineering management. Training is an aspect that needs to be put into consideration when workforce is in mind. With the advancement in technology, frequent training on trends and solutions offered across the globe is paramount. Engineering managers should lead research and innovation. It can be enhanced by coming up with research and development centers within an institution. Engineering managers will have to forecast future market conditions and technologies to enhance company sales and operations. By considering that the future will be full of economic trends and technologies that offer potential problems more than solutions. The engineering management should be in tandem with emerging trends and show readiness and capabilities to curb the menace. When businesses and companies fully rely on technology the extent of destruction caused by the failure of the technology is high and as such, management engineers should factor that in mind. In addition, product design should be able to meet sale and satisfy customers. The general objective of product development is to make a sale and enhance returns for the company (Krantz). To be able to achieve the same, the product design should factor competitiveness. Management needs to come up sales strategies that stretch from the design, production, packaging and the promotion events to ensure that sales are achieved in order to foster profitability. Conclusion The essence of the existence of engineers is to supply constantly to the needs of the market. They can achieve it by an agile process that is well integrated from training, to research and field operation. The desire by managers in coming up with benchmarks for the advancement of solutions is in line with innovative strategies.
