Topic: Communication: Art or Science Introduction Communication in business entails the establishment of contact between the people that are in an organization that is intended to make the activities that the business is involved in to flow as smoothly as possible (Wood, 2013). It can be used in the promotion of a product, service or the firm while passing information within the business as an official position of the company (Tschirhart & Bielefeld, 2012). Business communications covers areas such as marketing, management of brands, business communications as well as consumer behavior among others. It has a close relation to the field of professional communication as well as technical communication and the media channels that are associated with communication include television, internet, radio, ambient media, print media and also word of mouth. `Mastering communication is a very difficult task and very few people will ever be able to do it (Ritchie, 2008) yet many people, especially the lawyers have the belief that that they have mastered the skills that are required to communicate effectively. No matter the form of communication that is being used, either writing, speaking, standing or reading, the construction of the delivery of the message is as vital as the message that is being conveyed. Effective communication Communications is one of the highest qualities that employers seek when they are recruiting (Miller, 1999). Effective and efficient communication begin by making the correct queries which helps in understanding the needs and wants of the customer to be able to make recommendations of products or services that have been customized for the customer. A good communicator is supposed to speak, pause and listen to allow the other party to be able to process and generate a response to this information. Messages are always being sent through memos, faxes, telephone and even face-to-face, which makes it vital to listen and pay attention to the recipient after information has been disseminated clearly. Effective business communication requires clarity and the person that is communication should be, brief, focused and committed since impressions are made from the way one handles communication skills from the voice to the body language. Communication as an art Communication as an art allows the people who are communication to share emotionally while interacting at the social level, which affords communication many creative uses as a form of art. To begin with, communication is an interaction that takes place between human beings and among them if they are many. In due course, the basis of the fundamentals of communications are to productively exchange messages and have a dialog that is functional. In the developed world, almost everyone is linked to other people in one way or another and it is should be noted that this was a phenomenon that was not in existence only a few decades ago. With the right resources and technology, there is the capacity to link nearly any two places on the globe. Bringing together the art world and technology promotes the emergence of innovation all over the world through developing notions that are creative and mutual enterprises. To come up with this kind of world while considering the people that are in it, communication technology needs to develop a blend of art and science as the basic medium when developing technologies and experiences that progressively influence and connect our lives. The conception of new forms of art and the development of new technologies are both motivated creative problem solving while technology, which applies the knowledge of science, has an artistic aspect in its creation and production even emphasis is not placed on it. The art and science that is associated with communication technology deals with means by which data can move from one entity to another and can be in many types of transmission strategies. Technology as a science permits communication through several means across long distances as well as vast borders. Communication can therefore be perceived to be both an art and a science, but there might lack a technological cooperation in the science if it does not have characteristics of artful interaction in the communication. Communication enables people to deal with problems meaning that it has elements of being a science, but there are attributes of art in all the aspects of the communication science. This aspects and elements of art include listening, self-expressions, interpretation as well as collaboration as an art. A characteristic that differentiates humans from other species is the capability that they possess to exchange information in a very fast way and in a manner that is effective even when long distances are involved. The art of communication in business is exhibited when a thought comes before an action and this thought is applied to enhance the action that is being taken. It is the creativity that is demonstrated in the developing business ideas into applications that are realistic. Making advances in the communication as an art means applying communications resources to the operations of the business using techniques that will deal with the issues that the business faces, address the needs of the business. These techniques should also be able to bring in additional revenue as well as profit through applications that are inventive that reflect the power of communication. The significance that has been accorded to telephony in the recent times demonstrates a reconsideration of the history that is associated with art as communication in the previous century and the linked issue of the way technologies are able to deal with art. Communication is an industry that is in constant evolution and is highly dynamic in the activities that it deals with the same way that art is always dynamic. This has necessitated a change in attitude that is directed towards communication to some degree and this is shown in the realization that the business community flourishes on the information exchange as well as the art and science that involves sending the correct message to the intended person in the right way and on time. The coming up of information technology has been able to reduce the hurdles that existed the interactions that the humans had can be seen as an act that brings change to culture through molding it. It is characterized by applying math, science and also the arts for that life can be able to benefit. Communication technology has had a large part to play in the advancement of culture and the issues to do with the society as all the elements that are required to have efficient communication which adheres to time depends on the technology that is evolving. Communication comes from a Latin word that means to make common, broadcast or convey which shows that when an issue is made common, it means it has been shared, which is an important element of communication. Communication can also be said to be giving or exchanging of information that is blended with the art and approach of utilizing words efficiently in order to convey information and ideas. When the message is broadcasted, it immediately changes to communication as soon as it is understood, acknowledged and responded to by the recipient. Communication as a field has seen significant growth in the recent years and it progressively evolves with time (Walker, 2011). A vital aspect that is currently trending in studies that are associated with communication can be summarized together with the technology that is coming up. The term communication is derived from a Greek word that means a human skill or an art and every tradition that is associated with communication theories is challenged to embrace technology that is new. Communication technology is the communication makes conversations between more than one person easier comes in many forms (Page & Shepard, 1999). Communication technology such as voice, instant messaging, text messaging as well as video conferencing has significantly escalated the accessibility in business communication and has seriously changed the whole work place scenario. The communication as an art also changed the physical characteristic of the workplace making it easy for information to be sent quickly to any person who is anywhere at whatever time which has altered accessibility in numerous ways. Conclusion A business that expects to thrive in today’s environment must possess a simple understanding of the various innovations, programs and devices as well as the knowledge of the methods that can be used to apply these technologies. The business that are smaller can be in a position to utilize technology to enhance competence and usefulness of the operations that they deal with which results in an increase in the production output. This happens because employees are in a position to deal with more work while reducing on the resources that are wasted. There is a need to implement an enterprise that is future proof that is central to issues that are linked to communication which include improving the experience of the customers as well as the employees by giving them power to communicate in the ways that they prefer, impeccably across channels and using the techniques and tools that they favor. It would be very difficult to overemphasize the degree of the changes that are bound to take place and founded on the concept art and technology share the primary elements of innovation, as well as a synergy at the forefront of cultural innovation, the enterprise is supposed to be in the creation of new products, services and capabilities. These new products will have the effect of change in the world in a manner that will be insightful and maybe even unexpected. Reference Miller, K. (1999). Organizational communication (1st ed.).
