Introduction MGMT 3000 - Self-Analysis & Professional Development Plan is timely that maximize mypotential for productive personal life and satisfying career through intrapersonal, interpersonal and professional development. Peter Drucker explain it clearly that it is when self knowledge and personal strength are working together that one gain true and lasting success that build a life of excellence and it all begin with self analysis through answering these fundamental questions: “what are my strength?” where do I belong? What can I contribute? What are my values? And how do I work? (Drucker).This paper will focus on my personal analysis using various assessment tools and my personal and profession development plan that form the basis of my life goals for the future and areas of growth that I have to work upon in my life which will enhance the contribution in my niche. Among diagnostic tool I used in self analysis are: What’s My Jungian 16-Type Personality? Jungian is psychometric assessment in how people perceive the world and how personality influence decision we make it is a personality frame work that classify people as introverted or extroverted (I or E), thinking or feeling (T or F), perceiving or judging (P or J), sensing or intuitive (S or I).these classes are then combined to give rise to the sixteen personality type. In Jungian 16 –type personality assessment my score reflect that I am ENTP, this personality type is associated with people who conceptualize, innovative, versatile, individualistic and entrepreneurial people who are very resourceful in solving challenging problems though they neglect routine assignment. The strength and weakness of ENTP Their strength are that they are a quick thinker, knowledge lover, good at brain storming, charismatic, original and energetic. Their weakness: very argumentative, insensitive, difficulty in focusing, dislike of practical matter and may be intolerant and get bored quickly (16 personalities,2013) I agree with most of these qualities when I reflect my life though I differ with some such as being very argumentative, though at some point in my life, I think I was. What’s My Emotional Intelligence Score? Emotion intelligence is that intangible part in us that define how we manage social complexities, how we manage our behaviour, how we influence positive result through our choice of decisions. Emotion intelligence is based on personal competence which is the ability of being aware personal emotion and social competence which deal with the ability of understanding of other people moods (Schmidt). In emotion intelligence, I scored above average, that indicate that am good at understanding, interpreting and acting upon emotions and that am good at dealing with emotion conflict, dealing with an emotional situation and expressing my feeling. As much I appreciate these qualities I must admit that in my life, there have been emotion situation that I did not handle accordingly, hence the fact that there always room for improvement in emotional intelligence hold. How Motivated Am I To Manage? In how motivate I am to manage assessment I scored 54, whereby the score of 22-55 give the impression of uncertainty in motivation to lead. Yes! I accept the fact I scored low than I expected, but that would not deter my ambition to manage, however this score impacted on me in such way that in future, I will have to weigh my option whenever am entering in management endeavour, but I still value myself as a good manager if not the best. What’s My Preferred Conflict Handling Style? “Conflict is inevitable, but combat is optional” –max lucade. From the assessment of conflict handling style, I score high in collaborating style that is associated with win –win paradigm of conflict handling. This conflict handling style is the default one in me, but I have learn that other style can be applied in a different situation since this style does not work in all circumstances. Am I a Type A? From personality test I am not type A, but rather mix personality with more type B. this result indicated that I am lazier compared to my competitiveness and when I reflect upon how I have been doing thing I regard that to be true, I procrastinate and take some time to do some task that are not in alignment with my project as a result of assessment indicate, also it is true that I am lazy from time to time, but I do work hard. I appreciate the result of this assessment since it point so definitely in areas in my life which have been holding me back, and these are area that I need to act upon. What Is My Basic Personality? From basic personality, I scored high in melancholic temperament 35 %, which is indicate that I am quite analytical, have high ability to see flaws and I am artistic, and that I usually hold grudges and that I am a pessimist on top of that perfectionist.. As I reflect upon my life, honestly these qualities both positive and negative do not hold in my life, this is assessment tool which I beg to differ with. Though I scored 25% in I phlegmatic and choleric temperament which to some extent I think reflect my life better than melancholic temperament. What Motivates Me? From the assessment of what motivate me among the eight influential motivators was inquisitiveness: the need to know, it is amazingly true that I am often curious, and I highly value knowledge as I am always searching information from different sources even if that information is not directly related to me and I also tend to think deeply about different issue as the result indicate of assessment indicate. When I consider how I am usually fascinated by new knowledge, I consider this result to be true and it give me confidence of undertaking academic profession in an academic institution. What’s My Leadership Style? From my leadership style assessment, I score 44 in column one; thus my leadership style is not much of initiating structure, but on column two I scored 45which indicate that I am a considerate leader one who is concerned with personal welfare of subordinate. This assessment tool result pin point some area in my leadership style that I need to effort i.e. ability to plan ,organize, direct control of work of other with ought compromising relationship leadership style that show consideration to subordinate staff, thus my leadership skill have room for improvement. How Power-Oriented Am I? My score in power oriented assessment was 25 .this result indicate average power oriented. This result as much it is true it is costly in my career since management would be more effective and more successful if I have more power dynamics and understanding. Despite the fact that power orientation it is not the main factor that contribute to good management it is a crucial aspect of effective leadership. Growth and Development Plan Personal Growth and Development Plan “Personal Development Planning will help you to define and explore your goals and map out ways to turn them into reality. It will enable you to articulate the skills you are developing now in order to open up opportunities in the future. Using the templates in this guide you can build up your Personal Development Plan from goal-setting exercises, together with reflective notes and useful feedback. It will grow according to your input and should prove an excellent tool to manage your own development.” (University of Leeds, 2002, 4) It is my deep hearted feeling that I was born to make impact as a leader and to positively influence not only people who are younger than me but also the wider society. To this end, I acknowledge the fact that I must be a person that should be emulated in all that I do. This includes aspects of family, religion, ethics and integrity, morals, compassion and in all spheres of life. As a family person, I wish to be the best parent by availing myself to my family. To achieve this am committed to ensuring that my work does not infringe on to my family time. I will endeavour to have all my work done within my work time to avoid eating into family time. I plan also in this respect to solve any disagreements within my family circles in a manner that increases harmony. The other area of great interest to me and which I would want to develop in is a charity and compassion. My goal is to be a member of a rotary club and other charitable organizations. This goal should be achieved within a span of 5 years. To achieve it I intend to hook up with likeminded individuals in society who will help me in helping the less privileged members of the society both locally and overseas. More to this, I should start some charitable initiatives in my own small way for example giving part of my salary to already established charity works. Diet: The goal here is to desist from over consumption of junk foods for example fries, creams and chocolates. This is aimed at reducing the health risks related to their consumption. I will over the next 6 months’ time endeavour to cook conventional food and carry to work to avoid the temptations of eating junk foods. I will also ensure that I incorporate at least a fruit daily. In addition, I will as much as possibly possible seek reliable information relating to good eating habit and implement them in my life practices. This habit will ensure always I have energy to face the day and influence those around me positively. Physical Fitness: Goal here is to make sure that my body is in best of shape and fitness and setting good example of daily discipline that influence other positively. Activities to achieve this include 30 minutes daily exercise every morning as a jog as part of my daily habbit. Mentorship: The aim is to have a role model whose life I would wish to emulate to guide me in life. I intend to have a mentor who is available for me and passionate about contributing to society. I have a list of possible individuals whom I will approach within the next 5 months. I will also commit myself to stick to what the mentor advice. To measure the value of this mentorship I will compare my achievements within one year while being mentored with same period before I was mentored and it will give me an indication of how effective mentorship program is. Financial Management: Goal is to effectively manage my finance to eliminate debt and increase my net worth. I will have to look for alternative sources of income apart from my salary for example, by having to work overtime if possible or take part time jobs. I will eliminate wasteful spending in luxurious on basic tings e.g. clothes. I will increase saving from my salary. I will reduce credit card use to reduce debt. I will seek to reduce impulse buying which is not prudent. Period of achieving this is one year but maintain longest possible. The next among the fundamentals of growth and development is professional growth and development. Professional Growth and Development Plan: Within line with my aspiration in academia arena my goal is to be as impactful in all areas of my endeavour in international career, to provide my associate and clients with material, skills and relevant information that will help them make positive impact in the community at large and I aim at being a person who stimulates people to think and provide tangible solutions to their problems. I will seek to develop everybody that passes through my hands in to a more valuable person in the community. More to this I also want to be the most knowledgeable person in my field. In order to achieve this I have to do the following Communicate Effectively: This is important for me in my international studies since it serve as preparation for future professional growth as good communicator. In line with this I will undertake proficiency courses to help me be a confident and a good communicator. I will also read Widely on the subject of communication both spoken and written to achieve this goal. Master my areas of academic interest. This is the crucial in my profession. To achieve it I will do more research and attend more carrier advancement seminars and workshops. I will also write papers in my areas of study as much as possible. Have An Academic Mentor: I will look for approachable personnel who are ahead of me in the profession and have them mentor me in what they have done to be where they are so that in the future I can also be like them. I will work very closely with them and have their views in any professional thing that I do for example, change of job so that I minimize the risk of going astray. Conclusion Through knowledge of self awareness i.e. my strength and weakness that hinder me, knowledge of how well I work with others, being aware of my deep held value and knowledge of environment of where I can work best. It set me in high position where I can build a full filling life of true success. According to Drucker, Successful career is not only planned ,but it need to be developed when one is aware of his strength and weakness, where this knowledge about self is gained from self analysis through the use of various assessment tools, and when the knowledge is applied it result into hardworking, competent, and outstanding performer.
